An overlooked aspect of sending players to the NBA - them giving back to the school for stuff like this. Logically speaking, the more we send, the more potential $ coming back to the program.

This particular gift is not that, but made me think.

oddly, Development departments have done studies on this and found that there is very little link between philanthropy and success in sports, both as a team and an individual. The culture of philanthropy to your institution is much more centered in the business world than the sports world, or the entertainment world for that matter. Sports can bring pride to the school but it is much more likely that the donations come from fans rather than players. Athletes tend to give back to their home communities when they look for charitable causes.

Is that common? Absolutely should be but strange that rarely seem to hear much about it happening.

Interesting! I wouldn't have thought that. I'd love to read one (or more) of these studies if you can share?

Could this be what BU has been giddy about but couldn’t say?
I hope not. This is great and all, and I imagine it helps recruiting and gives our coaches reason to stay, but there is no direct benefit to on court performance

The desert
Ubben is looking a little naked.

It sort of amazes me that, regardless of the amenities inside, the architects for Ubben still decided to just make it a concrete box. I am glad to see they are going to make it a bit more aesthetically pleasing.
