Agreed we cannot go into next seson as one of the worst 3 pt shooting teams in the BIG. It's one of the reasons it cost us an early exit in the tournament. 4-14 was terrible.
Just 2 of Trent's missed 3 pointers go in and we are in striking distance the whole game. Changed everything

Random question. How common is it for players to quite literally leave the team to rehab an injury? Is that common practice? I guess I always just assumed that they would still be at the school, with the team, just out to see whichever specialists/doctors when needed. Is this all because of the Covid weird year that Hutcherson was able to go back home (I thought he was from the east coast but he's been out west) to do all his treatments/rehab? That's what has made his return "questionable" to me, the fact that he hasn't been around the team for nearly a year.
Curbelo is 6'1" and rebounds well. Doesn't strike me as excessively small but maybe his quickness makes him seems smaller than he is
This happens - just not a lot of injuries require off-campus assistance. If students are looking to pursue a solution that is not offered by their on-campus support team, they'll travel.
I'm sure Covid plays a part in it. Typically, Hutch would probably travel back and forth, but with Covid - he'd have to go through quarantine several times. Probably safer to have him stay there.
In every video I've seen, he's been decked in Illinois gear. I'm sure it's more of a question of whether the staff will take him or not as opposed to him wanting to come back. And from everything I've seen, the staff will take him back.
BU is working hard to get some smooth shooting wings to improve the 3 point shooting. Goode and Podz will be welcome additions, but until they are ready for a lot of tick, Illini may need a really good shooting wing to pair with Miller.

I think a big issue with our team was that we were a very low volume three point shooting team going down the stretch of the season and our “shooters” were more streaky than anything. I get why we wouldn’t be—we were winning and dominating in the paint—but sweet shooting from the arc stretches the D and makes life so much easier for guys like Ayo and Kofi that want to make a living at the rim. Trent and Adam probably had their 3pt percentages (which weren’t world beating as is) inflated by a few stretches where they got hot as opposed to being consistently decent from deep. We also had no transcendent high volume, high percentage shooters like a Wieskamp. Damonte is a great story, but he was so low volume that it isn’t comparable to a guy shooting six threes a game on 40 percent shooting. The latter is a much more terrifying threat for opposing defenses. I have no doubt Miller gets closer to 40 percent from distance on high volume. If Curbelo ever gets there...look out. Franklin would be an excellent addition in my opinion (particularly because it appears Burnett is a no go). Big guard, shot well in a garbage offense, B10 tested. That backcourt is a bit small, but I like its composition a lot.

Doesn't help when the guy shooting 100% from 3 in the game and who hadn't missed a 3 in the tourney (AM) only gets two shots from deep. I remember seeing him say "get me the ball" in the huddle with about 7-8 min left or so, but I don't think he ever got another shot after that (if he did, it was a two). He's the kind of guy you ride when he's hot, but we chose to keep going back to what had worked all season (understandable, but frustrating given the outcome).

Guys need to nail their 3s to open things up, but Kofi also has to be able to kick out to the open shooter (or the guy one pass away) to punish teams for collapsing. Those two scoring options become so much more deadly if he can execute that pass consistently.

Agree with all of this. Granted I barely watched IU outside of our games against them, but Franklin was the one guard I was worried about during our games. Curbelo with Miller and Franklin on the wings would be a dynamite backcourt. I think Miller and Franklin can both be at/near 40% from 3. Both guys seem kinda similar in that they are good shooter and underrated athletes.

Other folks have said this but Franklin is the most important piece of this recruiting cycle IMO. He slides in so perfectly with what we want to do offensively and defensively. I worry though that IU hiring an ex-NBA guy is going to sway a guy like Franklin who probably does have a future at the next level.

Him and TJD should be Woodson's first calls/meetings. I think there's probably a better chance of him staying at IU than leaving, but in the event he does leave, I like our chances.

What's the upside for him staying? They weren't good this year, there is already a mass exodus, and things certainly won't improve dramatically next year given the turmoil. Curious what others see as Woodson's sell.

I would add a third option. I see some teams still playing that have several guards and wings who drive, draw a second defender and then feed the ball back to the perimeter to an open shooter.

He seriously would be a nightmare to cover. He already can pretty much take anyone off the dribble - so they have to respect that. With this, they would have to guard at the 3pt line - hope he can get at least low to mid 30s on this 3pt shot

I agree. I base this solely on him being from Indy, already spending 2 years at IU, and giving the new coach a chance. I mean he's clearly their starting SG, so he should get as many opportunities as he can handle. And from Woodson's perspective, he has to try to get his good players to stay.

I don't know the analytics that would go into this decision, but I would like to see Underwood experiment more with a zone next year. In no way abandoning the normal, great defense, but just enough to make it a little change of pace when needed. Oregon State completely shut down Loyola with it. Syracuse seems to always win an unexpected game or 2 in the tournament. It just seems like something that can be used effectively as a change of pace every once in while. Practice and play it just enough to have some familiarity with it to be effective when it's needed.
Sure, if you assume full height rims. The angle is definitely confusing as it looks lower and the floor and rim are not shown in the same shot so you can’t really gauge the height of his jump. I’ll wait until I see him on the floor in conference play before I draw any conclusions.
