Pretty sure most people on here would critique the Globetrotters.
Globetrotters are all selfish and there was no need to keep the starters in for so long when they were beating the Generals by 65 points. I do not want players with that attitude on my Illini. And, yes, Curly Neal has handles, but how many assists did he have last game? 1, maybe 2, and I think those were actually airballed shots.

1) I'm not the one who 'labels' the type of players they are building a team with 'character not characters'. BU says it, constantly. 3 weeks later, he adds a guy who was suspended, not just kicked out of a game.

2) Do you throw Mady Sissoko in with these guys too? "Heat of the moment incident"??? Most here still want his head on a platter (go review the last 4 pages of posts).

3) If a sucker punch in a handshake line isn't 'shenanigans', I don't know what is.

4) Payne threw 2 elbows, to the same guy. It looked pretty vicious to me.

5) I said nothing about a coach molding boys into men. Of course that's part of their role.

It's just my opinion these incidents were more than just chippy moments, they went overboard. When a player is on our team, we tend to justify. I get it.

Okay ..fine..you took BU's labels and directly applied them to these two...and then you literally said there's hundreds of others that haven't had these types of incidents...which implies that we should ignore these kids because of these incidents.

I'm not excusing their actions...I'm merely suggesting that maybe we shouldn't be judging these teenagers and casting them aside...but rather use these incidents to help them mature. And I firmly believe...as do most here IMO....that Sissoko was merely doing as his very demanding coach directed.

Sorry if you felt I was implying that we should ignore these kids. That's not the case, as each case is somewhat different. However, one may conclude that it seems a little contrary to what Coach has been preaching ad nauseam (i.e. in seeming every national interview).... that's all.

I do think anyone can learn from mistakes, no doubt. There is so much talk about 'building a culture', 'doing things the right way', 'character', etc. etc. And it took 4 years to get to where we are at. I'm not in favor of jeopardizing that.

They had to boost that KenPom. Margin of victory was important.

I'd be willing to bet one of my sweet Loyalty Beach Houses that every one of our players has had an incident of this nature at some point in their playing careers. Maybe not as egregious...but I've been to playgrounds and gyms....teenage boy testosterone is the feistiest testosterone.
These are clearly more visible....but don't try and kid yourself into thinking our bench is loaded with delicate angels.

As for BU's culture building...he also mentions development...not just as players but as men, so it absolutely falls within his providence to take young men like these and develop them in all facets. I'm certain that these two incidents don't necessarily define either of these players.

I trust the coaching staff we have to evaluate and determine what these young men will bring to the court, locker room, and campus.

Very true.. I'll give Underwood a pass on character judgement until we have players, Oh, I don't know, maybe arrested for beating up a girlfriend, pulling a knife in a barfight, or driving drunk and nearly killing a teammate in a car wreck. Until then I'll write off the occasional flagrant foul yo poor judgement by passionate players during the high emotion setting of top level competition

Anyone know how Payne’s hands are? Won't matter how much Belo gets him the ball if he can't catch it...

I also have reservations regarding Payne's commitment. More interestingly for me, I just shared the news of his commitment with my wife, and she sarcastically said "message sent to Michigan State".
Ha! Now that’s funny. We got an enforcer I guess...

Hamlin and possible BVD are moving on. Lieb? Not sure. Lets see if he can put muscle on in the offseason.
Lieb is not leaving. He was interviewed about this being his dream school that he will never leave. I understand how you'd think he'd want to leave. Most guys in his position would be hopping into that loaded transfer portal

After reading the Swampgas (Florida) basketball forum, apparently his hands aren't as soft as Kofi's. I just hope they're not carved out of granite.
