I think it's as simple as it looks. AM and his camp see the type of ball dominant guards we are pursuing in the transfer portal (TyTy, NB, Franklin) and along with Curbelo it makes it pretty clear to them that AM will not be Ayo's heir apparent.
I don't know if it is something the coaches see in his game, but he clearly expected to be handed Ayo's role after this year and those targets we are after raise legitimate questions.
I hate to see AM go, but I absolutely trust BU and his staff to build the roster they see fitting their game plans.
I have no personal knowledge of AM and his thought processes. It does seem to me that if a player believes himself to be an NBA player he shouldn't be afraid of anyone in the college game. Everyone in the NBA is a top flight athlete and highly skilled. No college team involves that level of competition. If you can't make your mark on a college team I can't imagine you can make a mark in the NBA. Having said that I am sure that several of you have examples of players who didn't star in college but became NBA regulars to show that you don't have to start in college to play in the NBA. It is just a player mindset (again not saying this is AM's attitude because I son't know him) that I don't understand.

If the speculation about Miller’s motives is true, I agree with you. If you’re not the best freshman guard on your college team, you’re a long way from ready for the NBA. Still, I think he is going to be a very good player somewhere, and I wish Underwood didn’t have another starter to replace. Miller’s a big loss.

I saw him on one of ESPN's preseason mock drafts ahead of Ayo -- kind of sums up the expectations he probably had along with the broader basketball community. And I'm sure he looks at a guy like Cam Thomas that was ranked similarly to him and plays a similar game, and thinks perhaps another system/situation will allow him to shine like Thomas did. Can't blame him for thinking that, whether or not it seems to be the most 'wise' decision from where we're standing. I just wish he had gone about it differently. Even if he was unhappy with his role, he seemed to be the consummate team player (from the outside looking in) for the whole season and earned a lot of goodwill (among us fans) for buying in as he did, and then he lit a lot of that on fire with the way he put his name in the portal (not telling the team/coaches, release to ESPN with no note to fans/team, etc.).
Tells you right there how much these mock drafts are worth. But it’s what everyone talks about.

In all fairness, there's a big difference between a mock draft before a season of basketball and a mock draft after the season. Much less weight is -- and should be -- given to mock drafts that far out (literally before the 2020 draft in this case), though you probably give it more weight if you're the actual player. Nobody could tell you for certain that Ayo would fix the holes in his game, but they could tell you that AM was a really good shooter/scorer in HS/AAU. Same goes for Ayo -- he was rated higher in several mocks coming out of HS than he was after his soph year. It really tells you more about the difference between evaluating a guy vs. HS competition and vs. college competition. BJ Boston being the best example -- a possible top 5, definitely top 10 guy has a terrible season at UK and is now bottom half of the first round (which is still insane to me given how he played). Flip side is guys like Suggs, Ayo, and Davion Mitchell absolutely wrecking the competition and flying up draft boards throughout the year.

TL;DR: all mock drafts are gimmicks to a degree, but pre-season ones are especially. Mock drafts at this point relative to the draft are much more useful.

For all Curbelo's assists, I don't remember many that were kick-outs to Miller.
During the game where Curbelo almost got a trip-dub, Belo found AM for multiple open threes, but AM missed most (all?) of them. A camera caught Belo telling Tyler near the end of the game that Adam "screwed him" with those misses. I doubt Belo held a grudge against AM after that, but I can imagine Belo lost some confidence in AM to make the open shot after that.

I will not believe that AC said that until you attach the clip.

I believe he said it jokingly, but he said it nonetheless. I made the language more PC for everyone. Feel free to check the DVR. I suspended my YouTubeTV account since the Loyola loss, so I can't help you out with your request.

It doesn't have to be a penalty. You could offer a carrot instead of using a stick. In baseball, if you want a player for the long term, you give him a long term contract. If schools get creative and didn't have the archaic rules of the NCAA, they could easily find ways to keep players, or at least discourage mass movement.
They do have to guarantee scholarships for four years.

Heard on a podcast the staff backed off Jordan Nesbitt after hearing about some red flags chemistry wise at Memphis and didn't want to deal with that after Adam Miller.

This was said on last week's thread. Did I miss something where there were chemistry issues with Miller?

With this season’s Illini we see two extremes of how things work out (or not) for home-grown talent.

With Ayo, he becomes a great star and one of the best Illini ever. With Miller, we see home-grown talent that fails to make it past his first year in his home State (for whatever reasons).

With college ball virtually embracing full-on “free agency”, a premium that may have once existed on collecting in-State talent is now as unnecessary as it has ever been. While it’s great to maintain good relations with the locals, it’s now more important to develop and promote your roundball brand to the Nation (and World) at large. And find guys who buy-in to your vision wherever you find them.

In baseball the saying goes that, “We root now for laundry” (the logo of our team) now. Baseball has been a game of movable pieces and free-agents for years and players have become brands unto themselves more than a member of any one club. So it shall be in major college basketball.

If coaches are free to come and go as they wish (or quickly get shown the door), then players should have that right as well. Players do not have the protection of a contract. If higher education is supposed to prepare one for getting useful employment, then players who can prepare themselves better for work and life somewhere else after a year should have and take that option without restrictions or penalty.

Be a destination where you can succeed and prosper and have a brand that people know and like and you’ll have a trail of talent waiting at your door. The legacy Blue Bloods have never looked so vulnerable as they do now. The window is open for many programs to elevate their National standing quickly. We’ll see who jumps into the void and makes a big splash.
I think this benefits the blue bloods. Kansas was a train wreck and they’re about to get really healthy while facing sanctions. Such a farce.

Hearing that Michigan and Kansas have an interest in Miller. I can't believe he fits at either one. DePaul supposedly had a Zoom meeting with him. Now that makes more sense.

If he goes to Michigan, I will be shocked. Would make zero sense as they are bringing in some highly rated guards and may return Eli Brooks and Brown as well.

Lol. He’s going to end up even further down the food chain than he was here. He will never be “the man” at a Kansas or Michigan.
