I'm trying to remember how Illinois-Syracuse and Illinois-Michigan in '89 would stack up against this game. I remember the Michigan had 33 lead changes (!), and no lead more than 6 after this first few minutes. Can't really recall how well the teams played though.

Syracuse game I just remember as an intense brawl between two heavyweights. Probably not at the level of last night's game, but it was a good one.

All these years later, I still haven't been able to watch that game again. I had no idea there were 33 lead changes. (which is an underrated stat in showing just how great a game is, back and forth type battle for 40 minutes) Still by far the most painful loss for me as an Illini fan.

Agree, so painful. I have watched the UNC title loss again but never that one. Mainly watched that game to see for sure the terrible calls against Augie.

Were they as bad as they originally looked? Thought someone said several of them came not guarding Sean May as everyone assumes. Remember Ingram playing pretty well subbing in for Augustine but just got tired because he had to play so much more than usual.

At some point I have to watch the '89 game again because I remember Kenny Battle having an amazing game and he was always my favorite as a kid, but haven't got there yet. It's only been 32 years, maybe at some point I'll get over it. Nah, probably not...

Oh after watching it again I thought at least 3 of the calls on Augustine were atrocious. Certainly confirmed what I thought at the time. I think I heard something about Augustine not even being close to fouling out all season and in that title game he lasted only 15 minutes or whatever.. Ugh

Same with me. I can't watch it again. That was my most painful Illini loss. Absolutely loved that team!
