35 - 40% of the numbers in graphic have been grad transfers! Leaving roughly 400 a year, much less than 1200. No idea how many are grad transfers this year. I'm sure some are. This isn't remotely true. The transfer portal started in 2018 and there have been over 1,000 entering the portal every year since.
Under.Of what seems to be our top targets, Over/Under 2 out of the following guys:
Franklin
TyTy
Mitchell
Burnett
Podz
Miller
I set it at 2 because I think that's what we'll get: Podz and 1 transfer.
I think that is precisely the reason he is willing to spend a couple winters in Illinois. It sounds as though he hasn't really developed a go to move in the low post, and fouls at an unsustainable rate. The kid has a NBA frame. If he learns to play defense with his feet and not his hands he could be really good.I get what you mean. But I’ve seen a lot of big guys look totally different as a Jr/SR when compared to true or FR/SO season.
Also I think Antigua’s coaching could really help him.
You said kids entering the portal...not transfers. You're showing a graph of the number of transfers which is an ave. of roughly 500 kids per year. Way more than 200 in previous portals you reported35 - 40% of the numbers in graphic have been grad transfers! Leaving roughly 400 a year, much less than 1200. Our it's ready to pop.How is the staff feeling about this? Quiet usually means get the cup out.
TC what’s your feeling with Franklin? When is Podz supposed to decide?
Disagree with this. Payne’s advanced numbers, especially on D, are pretty impressive on a per minute basis. He now has Curbelo to operate with, which could allow him to take off.Next year hinges on Kofi coming back. Payne's a good pickup, but if he were a productive high-major starter, we'd know it by now.
Including a former Illini.Franklin is doing his due diligence. Indiana is after some guards in the big ten portal as well.

Bold prediction.IMO our ceiling is higher with Kofi and our floor is waaaaay higher.
Anything's possible, and there's no question that Antigua is excellent with big men. Still, Payne is who he is after two years of high-major D1 coaching and experience. Even assuming improvement going from SO to JR and under Antigua's tutelage, if he ends up starting at the five, we're going to see a big decrease in production after Kofi. Kofi averaged almost 18 and 10 this season. He was pretty much an automatic double-double machine in the paint. It's no insult to Payne to suggest that he's not going to do that. Payne coming off the bench in relief of Kofi sounds great. Payne starting instead of Kofi, not so much.I get what you mean. But I’ve seen a lot of big guys look totally different as a Jr/SR when compared to true or FR/SO season.

I don’t disagree with this, I just don’t think next year “hinges” on his return. I think we make the tournament next year regardless of whether Kofi comes back (assuming we don’t completely whiff in the transfer market). If he returns, I think we are ranked top 15 all season. That’s how big of a leap I expect from him and Curbelo.IMO our ceiling is higher with Kofi and our floor is waaaaay higher.

I didn’t realize the only comparison was to Kofi. Clearly there’s a drop off. But I think Payne in 2 years could be a big man that ranks in the top half of league starters.Anything's possible, and there's no question that Antigua is excellent with big men. If Payne is coming in as a backup, then there's not so much reason to compare him to Kofi. If he's being positioned as Kofi's replacement, it's a pretty obvious comparison. We don't know yet. And Payne can, and should, improve here, but he's no wild card. He's a known quantity.I didn’t realize the only comparison was to Kofi. Clearly there’s a drop off. You don't know that we've lost anything with Simeon, and you also don't know that we'd be done in Chicago. You make bold statements and assumptions. I think BU's reputation is solid, and he didn't ask AM to leave. You're a bit hasty and over dramatic with your parents comment. If he said he'd made a mistake, and BU, was good with it and if the team is okay with it, then that's all that matters.Kids make mistakes....especially when being pressured by family. Wow....glad none of you were my parents. Not very forgiving.
And....you’ve already lost any relationship with Simeon. If Miller asks back, and we say no, we will be DONE in Chicago and we won’t have helped ourselves in Peoria.
