I am 60 years old I grew up in Champaign, friends with Kendal, and have been a fan for what 52 years? My favorite player has always been a guy named Quinn Richardson who 90% of the people on this board have no idea who that is. That just changed.

Trent Frazier is my favorite player ever to play at the school. Not because he is the greatest player ever to play her, but because he probably loves the school as much of not more that any kid that had ever played here. His staying is simply the decision of a bright and selfless young man. Trent can play in Europe at this moment and I would never have blamed him. What does he do? Stay at Illinois, he is simply a smart young man. Get his masters from a great school which when he is done playing basketball will be worth millions more than one year playing in Europe.

Simply put he is one of if not the most dedicated Illini player ever.
Trent if you read this, I have lived in Florida for the last 20 years, saw you okay in HS several times, I simply can’t tell you what a great young man you are. Your parents should be so proud of you. Smart decision made by an outstanding young man.
I currently live not too far from Wellington, FL where Trent went to high school. He committed to Illinois a couple months after I moved here (aging parents, good for my golf game). I have similarly been impressed with Trent's dedication to the school, staying put after Groce was fired and now a key player initiating the new guys into the Underwood system.

The only thing on which I have no clue is how many scholarship players we will have on the roster next season. Something has to give between Kofi, Hamlin, Lieb, and BBV...

For football NCAA, is allowing teams to not count 5th year players toward their scholarship limits. I am not sure they have made a ruling on basketball or not. I can't seem to find anything on it either way.

Great news! Especially if I assume Miller does not return (have read conflicting things but would rather lean toward pessimism), Trent will be absolutely invaluable for this team next year. A backcourt of Curbelo and Trent as leaders is still one of the best in the Big Ten. I would also really be curious to see what Trent could be like with no Ayo on the squad.

I think Trent without Ayo might look like this

Could literally be off the chain. Give someone else the job of Defensive shutdown (heh DaMonte you busy?) and watch Trent average 26 PPG next season.
Would be amazing, and while I'm guessing you don't actually expect him to average 26, I personally expect him to top out at that 16-18 point average range.

I don't believe he is good enough of a layup/ floater maker to be a 20+ a game scorer. Not enough diversity in his game, IMO.

16-18 would be great! I think we all love Trent. But I think we know what he is as a player too. I expect a bigger role and some further development of his game (hopefully a more consistent shot), but he’s not going to turn into Ayo who can get to the basket at will and hes not going to grow 4 inches.

I would settle for him shooting 40 percent from distance on high volume and getting to the rim more.

If (granted still very much an If) we see vs Michigan trent as a proxy of what he looks like w/o Ayo, I'm very excited. Definitely showed he can get to the rim at that game. Midrange still probably lacking and would be helpful in keeping the D more honest, but at least it's a relatively manageable area of development (has shown he can shoot. has shown he can drive. just needs to deliver the right combo of that in the midrange).

Trent got to the rim and scored some huge clutch points in the BTT Final game, if I recall.

The college years — the campus lifestyle — is (or at least can be) some of the most enjoyable and memorable times of our lives. Given the right opportunity, who wouldn’t enjoy another year or two of that lifestyle.

Yes, the outside world awaits. Settling into various adult patterns and responsibilities. But those days are all ahead and you have the rest of your life to live all that out. No rush if you don’t need to.

If Trent had any understanding of how much he is adored by Illini Nation, the last few weeks has not only confirmed that but intensified it. With the chance to play with some great new and existing talent — and to have another year on the campus of the Great Jewel of The Prairie – Trent might just jump into this unique year of opportunity.

Great coaching. Great talent. Great opportunity. The Greatest fans. Pretty tough to pass that up...

This truly sounds like something a “sage” would write. :)

The more I look at this, the more I like the idea. With Belo at the point, Trent will get more open looks without Ayo needing the ball. If Kofi can learn to pass from the post, Trent will have looks all day long. I believe his scoring will increase because of more looks. You get a lineup of Trent, Belo, Hutch, Grandy and Kofi, with daggers like Goode, Melendez, Hawk and poss Podz, we will have shooters all over the floor. It wont be 2005 but the movement and better looks will take away from whatever we lose on D.

There we go - let's get those orange kool-aid IVs started on all of us on here!!

Seriously, Trent's returns solves alot of issues. And if can score 16-18 ppg within the offense, no better way for him go close out his Illini career.

Is he close to the Illini career 3 pt record?
