The major difference there is Baylor's guys were mostly transfers who had already outplayed their high school ranking by the time they got to Baylor. That's a much different situation than hoping you hit on the lower guys who do outperform their ranking.
Agreed. which is why I think you should aim to have a couple top 50 guys on your roster and a supporting cast in the ~100 range. I also looked at Gonzaga's roster and they had 4 top 50 guys and everyone else was in that ~100 sweet spot.

I'm not sure we actually agree. I don't think that's a fair to look at Baylor's roster since Baylor didn't recruit guys who were in the 100 range. They recruited guys who were much better than the 100 range by the time Baylor actually went after them. By the time players are juniors, their high school ranking becomes irrelevant. The transfers Baylor got were more equivalent to top 50 guys than top 100 guys.

And Gonzaga had a 7 man rotation.

Suggs was 11th overall
Nembhard was 23rd overall
Timme was 43rd overall
Watson was 48th overall

Kispert was 103rd.
Ayayi was from overseas.
Cook was a 5th year grad transfer.

That's 4/7 of their rotation being top 50 kids, with 2 of them being 5 stars. The rest of their roster was mostly irrelevant this year.
