I think Nunn and Miller’s respective teams were nothing alike. We needed Nunn to be more offensively inclined. We didn’t need that from Miller though it would have been welcomed. IMO, The defense from Miller was pretty solid.
I don’t disagree with you but the Usage% statistic attempts to account for some of that difference.

It’s basically what percentage of possessions end with the player last touching it when that player is on the floor.

Nunn’s usage was 18.2% and Miller’s was 17.5%. So Nunn was featured slightly more than Miller, but Nunn was more efficient hence the better offensive ratings.

One thing that doesn’t take into account is the quality of the possession like if a play was designed for a player or if he’s picking up the scraps as the 3rd or 4th option just as you mentioned.

Both players had their fair share of touches is my point, and that’s about it.

That's a fair question. Another fair question is whether KNunn looked like a 13.5 pts/g NBA player after his freshman year. Players can develop a lot at the college level.
Did K. Nunn get a starting spot alongside an All-American PG? Either way, no matter. I wasn't trying to start an irrelevant argument.....

Has to at least indicate Miller to UK isn’t yet a done deal, right?

Wouldn't have an effect. Kentucky needs to bring in 7 or 8 new guys and of high ranked HS'ers, they are only in on Jaden Hardy. There's a reason they too offered Podz.

People thinking Miller won't start at Kentucky and get 30 minutes a game are either delusional or haven't looked at Kentucky's projected roster

I think the issue for the more informed that still want to see Adam achieve his goals is that Cal will relegate him to a role player there as well. He won't be assuming the role of primary handler/scorer. I'm pretty sure Hickman will handle that role. Adam will be a floor spacer and perimeter defender i.e 3 and D. It will be like groundhog day of his freshmen year.

I really can't see Miller not going to UK the more I think about it.

1. UK has little resistance on the roster for competition
2. Perks
3. NBA history
4. Perks
5. History
6. More Perks

I’m going to repost this link from the other day - all Illini freshman guard seasons since 2009 (when they started tracking ‘advanced’ stats)

Adam Miller is rated as the 2nd best defender, but struggled in the Offense metrics. He had essentially the same Usage rate as Kendrick Nunn but Nunn had much better offensive numbers.

I don’t have a dog in the fight, just trying to give some stats context to the discussion.

I did provide offensive numbers, per Torvik. Miller was better offensively than Nunn was as a freshman. So it depends what numbers you look at.

Link takes you to Miller, who is at #73 with a PRPG of 1.4.

Adjust the year to 2014 and you'll find Nunn at #62 with a PRPG of 1.3.

The Ortg and Usage match what you provided, but PRPG's formula thinks Miller was slightly better offensively.

Me too

Go Illini

It's always nice to have a Peoria guy repping my birthplace on the Illini, let alone two if Da'Monte comes back! I definitely hope Adam comes back. Plus, do you remember how excited we all were about the hype this team had going into last season? We were preseason #8 or something, and if Adam came back and Kofi stayed ... we could honestly be near that mark again. Personally, knowing that we could actually attend some games this year at SFC, I am REALLY hoping Ace Wolf returns!

I know this isn't recruiting but in one way it is. How many Big Ten basketball teams have had a big roster turnover? At this point we might lose one to the portal. Look at PSU, Mn, have had a big turnover. I am not counting those who have declared for the draft like Ayo, but just those leaving because they think the grass is greener. PSU was hit hard.

I haven't read all 30 pages of the Adam Miller transfer thread, but I sincerely hope the majority of the posts are positive and encouraging to the young man. We can all be classy about these kinds of situations

We do realize that only 60 players a season get drafted, right?

Crazy that this board has used the NBA as the benchmark of whether or not a player is any good or not. There are so many other tools available but "he's an NBA 1st rounder" seems to be the choice. BIG only had 4 players drafted last year.

Put too much stock in NBA potential, and you end up overlooking the literal NPOY from a certain unnamed rival school that terrorized us for years. Agreed that it's stupid.

(It sure was nice to leave him with a nice 3-game losing streak vs. the Illini, though! )

I’ve only loosely followed this thread but my impression is that the NBA benchmark is being used to demonstrate a player’s improvement over time, or an underutilization of his talent in college. I’m not sure it’s a baseline for being “good”.
