Random positive thoughts after wading through loads of posts:
1) The Adam Miller thread dropped way down on the Basketball page. 👍
2) Where there is smoke, there is fire. Fire is typically destructive or useful/soothing. But sometimes it can be both.
3) We love basketball.
4) We will still be better than Iowa, regardless of what happens.

Maybe Chin leaves and maybe he stays, but I completely agree that this was the right time for him to see what else is out there.

We're coming off of a season where we were ranked the entire year, earned a 1-seed in the tournament, won the BTT, and won the most games in a historically strong conference. And just three years ago we were near the bottom of that same conference. When you add to that the role Chin has played in developing our guards (one of whom is getting drafted this year and was contending for NPOY) and recruiting key pieces to our team, the cat is completely out of the bag. The bag has been burned. The cat lives in a mansion now. Other cats want that cat's autograph.

All it would have taken is Chin mentioning to OA that he is open to being courted, and all of this gets set in motion. OA passes that info on to Cal, along with a glowing personal assessment, and an offer gets made. I can almost guarantee that Cal isn't the only one who has reached out to Chin so far. Once word got out that Chin would consider other opportunities, the offers for head coaching and other assistant positions also probably started to flood in.

Others can see Chin's value clearly now. Ball's in our court.

wasn't that the wisky game when DMW and Alando Tucker , their coach, got into it ? BU had to separate OA and DMW and yelled at OA who then stormed back to the bench...

whatever game it was , like you, I remember the heated exchange between BU and OA....
Yeah, I thought it was the Wisky game, but could be wrong. Regardless, I don't think that situation would be the impetus for an assistant jumping to UK. I have quite a bit of family in KY and most of them are UK fans. Booster pockets are ridiculously deep in Lexington.

It was against Wiaky. I am not saying there weren’t words exchanged, I believe this is, like most things in here recently, being blown out of proportion.
I would agree too many things being blown wayyyy out of proportion, but it did happen.....probably not an issue regarding the situation now .

BOOM! Feed my ego.
He left because his boss lied to him. He was expecting the university to negotiate his new salary based on the last year's agreement ........."if I turn the program around, will you consider a salary adjustment??...............Yes." One year later after going from 12-20 to 20-12, the AD wouldn't hear it, so he started looking. So would I. If you can't trust your boss................LEAVE.
He didn't lie to him. This is yet another fantasy you want to attribute to reality.

"I don't know who wants me. But I know I'm the basketball coach at Oklahoma State. I'm going to be here until they put me in the ground or something else happens."

Two weeks later he took the Illinois job. Did Underwood lie?

I'll take "Ways to never hire another quality assistant in the future" for $400, Alex... err, Aaron... err, Anderson.

Answer: "The dumbest way to find yourself in a cheating scandal."

Question: "What is writing an anonymous letter the governing body outlining how your former employees sidestepped the rules?"

I dont think the optics will be good if Josh throws a bunch of money at assistant coaches this year. They fired several executive staff and asked everyone who could retire early to do so. DIA is not sitting well financially at the moment.

Honestly, what are people supposed to say? "I don't care if North Carolina offers me a trillion-dollar contract tattooed on Charlize Theron's butt, I'll never leave this job"? People leave jobs for better ones.

What was that "something else"? A lie?
Mike...Mike, will you kindly remove your hand from my person.

Illini fans want to believe Illinois is somehow special. Same for Indiana fans, Michigan fans, even Rutgers fans. And they are all special. But if everyone is special then no one is special.

If that happens and I'm JW, any dirt I have on the two of them that doesn't end up getting BU or me fired anonymously gets sent to the NCAA.
That would be about the dumbest thing you could possibly do. Even dumber than Davison doing a chin up on Kofi's bicep and trying to get a hook and hold call on Kofi

Chin has never been anywhere more than 2 years before coming to Illinois. Perhaps, he will always be looking for the next best thing. Some people are just like that.
That's more the norm than the exception for assistant coaches trying to move up the ladder. Same thing happens in football. That's why the good ones are always either moving or getting additional titles and pay raises.

This is all fan nonsense trying to convince yourself that Illinois is some special place that guys should want to stay at for lower pay. Should Underwood have stayed at Oklahoma State for more than one year? Seems kind of "slimy" or a "low blow" to leave after only one year at your first big job. Or maybe he didn't get the compensation he needed and someone at a program as good or better was willing to and he'd be an idiot to pass it up for no reason other than "appearances."

These so-called "optics" and "appearances" are imaginary scenarios fans create in their minds then try to attribute to reality. It's all in your minds.
I honestly don't know what you're responding to but it doesn't sound like you understood my post.
