Honestly, I think he is. No guarantees obviously, but if OA staying on staff means that Kofi comes back for another year, then it's already worth it. If Kofi also goes on to feature in the NPOY race, insanely worth it. And if Kofi develops his game and moves up draft boards to become a first rounder under OA's tutelage, then the value generated is immense. Program-redefining value.

Think of it this way: Cal is desperate to put a horrifyingly bad season in the rearview, and he is banking on OA to be one of the key people to help him to do it. That alone makes OA arguably one of the top assistants in all of college basketball. UK could have gone to any other program to try and poach assistants, but they went straight to OA with no hesitation. And the role he could play in helping UK bounce back is the role he can play in helping us to sustain what we've just started building.
Who, if anyone, else do we lose if OA goes? Any players only here because of him?

I trust that BU will find quality replacements if OA and Chin leave. As long as BU is not in the market looking, I really don't care. Just curious if anyone actually knows what the truth of what is happening.
What I'm reading (only here of course LOL) is that KY's Cal is desperate to make splash hires and will happily match any amount JW is willing to offer to keep either Chin or AO. People seem to think when that happens AO or both will move on to KY.
They obviously did a great job for us, but come on they aren't the "golden asst coaches" that we MUST keep or everything goes to h*ll in a handbasket.
Everyone is replaceable and the replacements might even end up being better.

I know that obtaining actual correct information on an internet site is rather difficult. So far in this thread, OA is leaving, OA is officially gone,
with new offer OA is staying, my guess is that at the current moment OA is thinking about all of this. He would be a dam fool not to consider all of
his alternatives, but does anyone really know what is the current status of OA's decision. I am not really worried about it because I trust that BU

Before anything gets finalized, the most you will hear anywhere will be whispers and snippets. And even after things are final, you will only be given highly-sanitized statements full of PR spin. There are probably only a few people who know exactly what's going on behind the scenes, and even they don't have perfect information. OA probably isn't privy to all of the internal discussions happening at the two universities, and I doubt OA is showing all of his cards either.

All we can do now is to wait for the dust to clear.

Most of this could be applied in the recruiting thread. Funny how that works.

The truth is there is an ongoing negotiation and bidding war for a top assistant and no one knows for sure, but KY media think no one would ever turn their team down and so report initial rounds of negotiation as fact.

What the hell, i take one day off this board and i come back to comments alluding to players and maybe coaches potentially jumping ship? WTF? Whatever happened on Wednesday must have been significant. 🤦

Well, at the very least I hope this is a wake up call to always be ready, always be hungry. I hope we are also going a bit on the offensive here too. I would love to keep the staff intact if possible, but hopefully we are also having conversations of our own too. Given that things are clearly up in the air, all avenues need to be pursued. I hope we have a backup plan locked and loaded by the time the dust settles.

Curbelo might of came here because of OA but he has many other reasons to stay by now, I would be a lot more worried about Kofi and Payne

True, but two days ago were you worried about Andre in the least bit? How about today?
Seeing the way Curbelo interacted with the team and how he seems to enjoy Underwood (thinking about the hug at the end of the Michigan game), I havent been worried about him leaving. While OA definitely got him here, I think he stays because of his role next year and the relationship with teammates and BU.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Curbelo has as much playing time at PG as he can handle over the next 1, 2, or 3 years. In a system that allows him to display everything he has to offer, with a head coach who will allow him to figure it out. It would be a risk to leave for an unknown situation, even if it's Kentucky. It's not impossible, but I'd be very surprised.

This. People act like guys want to transfer. Transferring is often a last resort. It's not an easy decision to leave what's comfortable.

This is pure genius on Whitman's part.

If we FAIL, his actions will

have told every fan that he is serious about making Illinois a national player
have told his head coach that he will go to the mat for him
have every assistant in America watching what is happening at Illinois

If he succeeds, all of the above plus we have OA
