Trent's dad took some fire out of his return announcement and it was Trent's turn to do the same for Monte. Hopefully Monte will get his chance to reciprocate with Kofi in a couple months.
I read in a couple places that Trent and DMW were planning to play for the same pro team together, so not too surprising that they'd both be back for one more crack at it.

If both can up their offense a decent amount, I'd think more overseas pro teams would be interested.

Katz has a lot of class. One of my favorites.
Your right that was a lot of class. DMW should come back and be will be a key figure for Illinois. We could be pretty darn good with or without Kofi, especially if we could get 1 more big. I know most here don’t want him (not even sure if he is still available), but I think Reuvers could really help Illinois. He is not a Kofi but he can stretch the floor. We would have Payne as a rim protector and I think Reuvers would be a great change of pace as a “stretch 5”.

Glad Andy didn’t push it further. He had to follow it up, but when Trent started to deflect Andy let him and didn’t try to get a “gotcha” moment.

I might be a tad biased because he always seems high on the Illini (which is a breath of fresh air in sports media...), but I have always thought Katz seemed like a great guy.

There are so many moving pieces right now, it’s hard to know how DW coming back will even affect the team. If we can bring in a big time 4, Kofi is back, and all our other recruits stay onboard, he would have reduced minutes and be a great guy off the bench. If none of those things happen, he will be a huge piece of the puzzle next year and a key to whatever our success is. Hope he can work on getting his shot off quicker this offseason. It would mean a ton for his pro career too.

I think having DaMonte back resolves a lot of defensive questions we had about the perimeter.

Our probably top 3 guards on the depth chart right now are all 6’2 or under. Probably don’t want to play all 3 at the same time much if at all. And without DaMonte our options at the 3 are Hutch (unproven, especially defensively), one of the freshmen (same), and Grandison, who, unless something changes, will most likely need to play significant time at 4. DaMonte is only 6’3, but long and strong so he plays bigger than he is, and should be able to match up with bigger wings.

Hopefully Hutch and all 3 freshmen are lockdown defenders, but if DaMonte’s back that brings some defensive stability to the backcourt.

love to have monte back but playing time for our freshman is going to be tough. not a bad problem to have.
