Chester Frazier joins Illinois coaching staff

The old saying is, "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach." In other words, being a good coach does not depend on being a good player. Good players just play and have no idea how they do it. Everyone here has been on the bandwagon for ex-Illini like Augustine and Hamilton. We don't have time to teach former players how to coach and recruit. Since we want to be at the top level, we need a coaching hire that is top level regardless of what color uniform he used to wear.

Was looking on the Virginia Tech forum thread (https://247sports.com/college/virginia-tech/board/59428/Contents/chester-frazier--165014683/?page=1). Chester Frazier definitely left a good impression there. It's kind of funny, you could change the school names, they were having the exact same discussion we were about losing assistant coaches. Of course, and I realize it just happened, their thread is only four pages long compared to the hundred plus pages over two threads on ours. Frazier is a great hire. He has a great defensive mind as a coach, and a passion for the school.

Frazier looks like a good addition. In my head, he fill the Chin-Coleman-sized space on the bench. We need someone now to fill the Antigua-sized space.
Considering Antigua is easily the best assistant coach in America, that’s gonna be pretty difficult

Nice to hear them talk about his recruiting abilities. Kinda funny that they think we are not going to be very good this year.
I don't think most of the country was paying attention until this year. Someone pointed out in the thread that Illinois was good the previous year, too.

In 2006, I would sit in my seats and think that maybe Frazier could turn into a decent bench player or maybe an adequate point.

Four years later I told a friend of mine I didn't know how we were going to replace what he brought every game.

There is alot of top shelf talent in the Baltimore, Washington, N. Virginia area.

Very good hire.

I'm predicting we'll see some notable improvements to Belo's defense and 3-pt shooting this year, courtesy of our newest AC. And all of our guards are going to be pushed hard to develop. Welcome aboard, Chet!
