No idea if there is a rule against it, but how would he find the time? Shoot, it's his second day on the job and he already offered a recruit.
I'm just playing. Watched the video and saw him running drills with his players.

I agree. I don’t get all the excitement for this. I’m underwhelmed. If this is plan A, I’m worried about what’s coming next.
I echo this. Admittedly, I'm a near 50 year old cynic, but this smacks to me of same ole Illinois. Talk of big time $ being thrown around & then we hire an alum. Maybe he is great & I'll hope for that, but I've seen this act before.

Getting a young alum who has had success at a Big 12 and an ACC school? If the Illini would have hired him immediately after his playing career finished I would have been highly skeptical. This appears to be a great move and perfect timing all things considered.

It's not like he was an alum coaching high school kids in Effingham. He is an assistant coach at a high major program that finished the regular season ranked in the top 25. They wanted to keep him. We brought him home. He has earned this opportunity. He was near the top of the list for a reason, and it isn't simply because he is an alum.

If we had brought in a guy with his resume and no previous relationship to the university I think we would still be feeling pretty good about.

I agree. If you're on a short list as an up and coming candidate as a head coach, I'm pretty sure it's not settling to take him as "just" an assistant coach. This is an absolute steal.

This once again is a “Statement” hire to the Ball World: ‘Illinois is a place to COME TO if you want to get with a legacy winner.’

So, the Orange now have a Frazier as a top recruiter. Mark this down for the future: One day, the Orange will have ANOTHER top recruiter named Frazier... TRENT. And he will OWN the State of Florida and bring loads of Fresh Talented Florida ‘Orange’ to Champaign for a generation. And this Frazier bleeds Orange and Blue, too. Such a sweet and tasty future ahead.

Syracuse stole him already?

Hearing CF has already reached out to Podz and his dad, as well as AJ and his mom. All looks positive. I was happy with the hire, but, now seeing how anxious he is to be here, the fact that he had his jersey on during his virtual address AND, the fact that he is already on the phone with 'cruits and targets......... I am LOVING this hire!

Not sure why the skepticism? We, as fans, grow connected to the players, coaches, etc over time, especially when winning. We grew to love Antigua and Coleman when we started seeing results. When we first hired Antigua, we knew he had connections from his Kentucky days, but we also knew he had a brutal tenure as a head coach(South Florida??) that was scrutinized due to some questionable practices. Quite frankly, I never heard of the guy until he got hired here. Same with Coleman. We knew he was a Chicago guy that some of the High School coaches really liked. Never heard of the guy before that.

How many Chicago kids...heck, Illinois kids are on our current roster?

We were all lamenting the losses of Tilmon, Pickett, etc when Groce got fired and thought the loss of his assistants would set the program back, but obviously that wasn't the case.

We, as fans, grew along with that team. It's natural to feel loss.

HOWEVER, with loss comes opportunity, I don't care what the profession is. Truth be told, none of us followed his recruiting wins/losses while at K-State or V-Tech. Like Antigua and Coleman, when they first got here, Frazier and whoever the next hire is will be an unknown. They will get out ASAP, they'll do their jobs, they'll meet with all of the High School coaches, they'll meet with the players, they'll build their own relationships locally and nationally and we'll move on. BU is still the head coach, he obviously knows how to run a program and we'll all move on.

The mark of a good program is when other schools want your assistants. There comes the "coaching tree". BU, over time, will have his "coaching tree", which is the mark of a good situation.

The train moves on, there will still be 500 kids still transferring all over the place and we'll be fine. The people hanging on the assistant coaching hire, here's some news for you....if we're really good over the next few years, these assistants will get cherry picked as well and we'll be lamenting that situation as well.

Let these guys do their jobs before you write their epitaph.

"Same ole Illinois"? Just how many alums have we hired for basketball?
And I am (a bit older) cynic, but I really like this hire. So many to recruit in the DC/Baltimore area and Chester has been all over it. Good guy, good coach, committed O&B, well respected here (DC area), and from what it seems everywhere....good stuff all around.
