Cockburn definitely has parts of his game that could be improved. But another year of playing for free while trudging across campus to classes during C-U winter being coached by TBA still doesn't guarantee huge draft gains. Of course I want him to stay, but he wouldn't the first player to say goodbye to the college game before fans thought he should.

Does anyone really know if it truly is Kofi's decision or is it his agent/handlers' decision?

If Kofi comes back and shows the ability to catch the ball in the high post and face up a guy like he did in the training video, he is a completely different player. If a 15 ft jumper comes with it, I'd have to imagine that increases his draft stock a lot.

That's true, but our staff has obviously been trying to teach him to hit a jump shot, or make his free throws, or find the open man, etc. for the past two years. It's not like Underwood said, "Don't anybody teach Kofi to hit a jumper until he's a junior!" He'll continue to get better at those things with another year of college ball (or a year in the G League, or a year playing internationally.) It's just that in one of those, you don't make any money and your classes get harder every year.

The classes might get harder, but It is very likely he would make money this year under the NIL rule that is forthcoming. I don't know what the rules will be on this issue, but I can imagine someone is out seeking interest from people willing to pay Kofi for his NIL right now. Unless there are caps or some other limitations, the NIL rule is going to allow some serious money to flow from boosters to star players. In the calculation of things, a full ride college degree (non-taxable) is valuable over a lifetime and, together with NIL money, makes it more financially competitive for a player with uncertain NBA prospects to stay in school.

That's a good point. If Kofi can make enough money under the new NIL rules to make staying financially attractive, it might be easier to postpone the real money another year.

Meyers Leonard with his current skillset is a fringe bench guy in the NBA. What makes you think his college skillset gets him drafted in the first round right now?
Jaxson Hayes was picked even earlier than Meyers just two years ago based off essentially the same skillset Meyers showed in college. Tall, lengthy, bouncy big man with upside as a shot blocker on defense and a roll man on offense, but little indication that they can shoot the outside ball well other than a solid FT% (Meyers turned out opposite of expectations in every way). Those guys still have a ton of value and continue to go in the first round.

The problem with Kofi (and his draft stock) is he hasn't shown an ability to fill either of those roles on offense or defense. He can have value in other ways, but is lacking in some critical swing skills (e.g., passing) necessary to capitalize on that value.

Kofi can do very little to improve his stock by coming back. He is what he is.

My friend Haha, you are acting as if it were impossible to develop the skill of a 12ft jumper or to develop the skill to pass out of the post. Granted Kofi needs to prove that he can do each of them to sniff an NBA roster long term. Why not work on those skills here and now? since we all agree he needs to develop skills like these.

Has Hamlin officially entered the portal. Read in the paper today he has. If I missed, I apologize.
