Not sure where to put this, but think I saw on ESPN ticker that it would be Northwestern playing Nebraska in Dublin to open 2022 football season. Anyone else see anything about this?
My wife is a NU grad and the Athletic Department sent an email yesterday confirming it. Not sure how they got to steal our spot in that game; especially when they do not have an ADNot sure where to put this, but think I saw on ESPN ticker that it would be Northwestern playing Nebraska in Dublin to open 2022 football season. maybe we were asked again for 2022 and we declined ? I'm just not sure myself we are really ready yet for a spotlight game like that.My wife is a NU grad and the Athletic Department sent an email yesterday confirming it. I wonder if BB didn’t want the trip? I thought one of the Illinois draws for the game was that our Alumni travel well and would support it. I find it difficult to believe NW would do the same. I’m sure Whitman will address it at some point. My wife is a NU grad and the Athletic Department sent an email yesterday confirming it. Our record isn't good anywheremaybe we were asked again for 2022 and we declined ? I'm just not sure myself we are really ready yet for a spotlight game like that.
Going there and getting beat in a bad way is entirely possible until we really know how good we are. It could take BB a 2-3 years to get our team up to par. NU is there, Nebraska probably isnt, but let them worry about that . I hate giving up a home game to play in those neutral sites - our record in those is not good
Good. I don't want the Illini to give away home games to neutral sites. Not sure where to put this, but think I saw on ESPN ticker that it would be Northwestern playing Nebraska in Dublin to open 2022 football season. Anyone else see anything about this?
DIA only wanted an overseas game in a year when there were 5 B1G home games. The next time we have that happen is 2023.I’m guessing it’s as simple as Nebby not being willing to give up a home game.
Illinois would have given up the home game in 2021 and NW will sacrifice a home game in 2022.
Nebby home games probably account for like 50% of the state’s economy on fall Saturdays.
All Ireland cares about is the Nebby fan base that travels really well. The other opponent probably matters less.
Think you're right. It basically comes down to finding a team that doesn't draw much of a home crowd (Illinois, Northwestern) and a team that travels well (Nebraska). If you look at our 2022 home schedule we don't really have any teams that fit that description. There is a chance we are scheduled for a game there in the future but not sure how BB feels about giving up home games.I’m guessing it’s as simple as Nebby not being willing to give up a home game.

I dunno, seems like a good opportunity for a potential recruit to watch our product (good and he wants to join, bad and he sees early playing time). No way we are pulling said recruit to watch us over any of the marquis matchups on a Saturday.I. Hate. Friday. College. Football.
And Illinois is always stuck with it.
While it sucks for us, it is a great opportunity to be seen nationally. On Saturday we are never going to get a primetime slot, but on Friday we are one of the only shows in town and on Sports Center and GameDay on Saturday we get talked about and our highlights shown.I. Why is the week zero game a noon kick? Did I miss something?
