The Illinois Basketball page never took down this retweet. Not sure what to make of that. Especially since they don't typically retweet this kind of stuff

I so would love to see him and Garcia play together.

@the juiceman cometh "I think the fact is nobody knows how much Kofi stands to make due to NIL"...Kofi would at least have an inkling of his potential demand based on the items he was selling last month. Obviously that was only offered once and doesn't include endorsement deals and so on, but it would've given him a sense of how much people wanted his memorabilia. I also wonder what Giorgi was able to pull in with his promotions -- that would be useful information to Kofi as well. Point is, yes this is uncharted territory and the hype might outpace real-life demand, but there's at least some relevant market information he could apply a multiple to in order to estimate what he could potentially make with a full year of those opportunities.

But didn’t kofi make money from the players trunk before he legally could (July 1st)? Does that affect anything?

I saw someone else note it somewhere, but even if it did... that was like a month ago. I doubt the NCAA would rule him out completely with these new rules. They would probably issue a fine, but to prevent an All American from returning over a small detail like that seems a bit much

This is the NCAA we are talking about and we are Illinois…

For instance, NCAA worked awfully hard to keep James Wiseman from playing at Memphis.

Another consideration here is that Kofi won't just be a face of Illini basketball, but NCAA basketball as a whole. Likely would be B1G POTY, 1st team All-American, and a serious contender for national POTY. Kofi's brand would be absolutely massive.

According to the Illinois post on the fighting Illini website it almost certainly does.

“*Sale of team issued gear is prohibited until departure from the University of Illinois.”

I suppose this could be an Illinois rule instead of NCAA but…

It's prohibited, but what is the punishment? Murder and Parking in a handicapped spot are both illegal. The punishments are wildly different. I propose they suspend him from the first couple weeks of summer workouts, and don't allow him to join his teammates on campus until after July 5th. That'll teach him.

If this rumor has any legs....which I hope, I'm sure we have done some due diligence.

Not that I'm getting my hopes up, but when is the deadline for him to withdraw from the draft?

Never mind. Found it myself. Not sure if any of you guys/girls have heard of this thing called Google, but it seems like it'll be pretty useful.

For anyone else that is curious, it is July 7th.

Whitman was on Saturday Sportstalk a week or two ago and the discussion was regarding Kofi returning. The sale of merchandise was brought up and he aptly sidestepped the issue, but he made clear that we would welcome him back. So either they think they have an out or they think the NCAA will not make an issue of it.

I'd find it VERY hard to believe anything would come of it. I mean really, they have S. Miller, W. Wade and Self with a lot more evidence and more egregious actions, yet, nothing is being done.

So we currently have two roster openings, with Trent and Da'Monte not officially counting. I don't see this team being in the Top 35 nationally.

We need an athletic big guy (6'8 or taller) who can be our GO-TO GUY, create his own shot and give us 17-20 pts per game. Then we're top 5 in the conference.
