I wonder how much he made? If he didn't make as much as he wanted then maybe that played into his thinking?...Bottom line if he truly wants to profit on his name, likeness etc and a Kentucky wants him then he's stupid to not go
Not sure why everyone thinks him going to Kentucky is going to make him more marketable than Illinois. At Illinois he is the MAN and will be the star of the BIG bb network. Chicago media will jump onboard and the vast alumni fandom will support him as well. Don't think Whitman is going to take this laying down.

I agree about the knee jerk reactions. In regards to NIL opportunities, I don't know if this is true. I genuinely would like to know the NIL value of different schools. Keep in mind... will the power of the Big Ten Network make big ten schools more attractive? Kids will be getting a lot of air time and the chance to land endorsements.

It's not that simple. Marketing deals are based on so much more. It's kind of why the B1G is the most lucrative conference. You want a mix of a large alumni/fan base as well as a spread out market. UK basketball is a brand by itself but the turnover is so high, most folks don't associate specific players with that brand as well. in this case, there is value in continuity as well. All this goes to say, its not necessarily clear that blue blood programs will have a clear path to a competitive advantage as others.

Yesterday Kofi was all in on professional basketball.
Almost all of us would have loved our roster with a Garcia or some other 5/4 solid addition from the portal.

Today Kofi says he is keeping his options open….on all fronts…..which includes a potential return to Illinois.

OMG!!!!!!

Illini Nation’s world just crumbled.

The panic.
The frenzy.
The social media ridiculousness.

Relax people. For the love of God relax.

I promise the sun will rise tomorrow, and the next day……

And guess what…?
We are going to have a solid team in 21/22.

With or without Kofi, the program has turned the corner.
I cannot wait to watch the boys gel this year.

Just breathe….you’re gonna be ok
It’s all gonna be ok
it’s gonna ok
Ok

This is the Kofi friend-zone. Best hope is that he goes pro so you can still pretend the love was real.
I think he loved every minute he played here. His social media posts after putting his name in the draft weren’t generic, hollow messages. His demeanor on the court and strong chemistry with his teammates was palpable. (Unlike, say, Ace.) He could go elsewhere, but it doesn’t mean he didn’t love being an Illini. Not mutually exclusive in my book.

Kofi will also be new at Kentucky competing with several other top players, he probably wont be the top NBA prospect at Kentucky. I have lived around the US, Kentucky bball brand isn't as big as many think.

People tend to support local/regional teams both pro and college. The biggest Kentucky fans I have come across ate from the small state of Kentucky.

Still Believe that Kofi not hiring an agent (when he easily could have) means he has not closed the door on coming back. And who knows with fresh financial incentive to return...
Are you sure he hasn’t hired an agent?

I don't know if the list below is accurate. #10 among baseball players is at $250,000. I think people are way overselling the dollars for endorsements and from a national perspective really overselling it.

I think we'll find that primary potential here is for the same people buying suites and advertising also add to that by paying the athletes, even though the endorsement will probably do little for their bottom line. No doubt a few lesser known businesses will try to make a mark as well and might even be successful.

Top 10 baseball endorsement earners.

I tend to think you’re right, but we all saw the $$ thrown around in the FBI probe. Once it’s legal, it seem logical the money will flow much easier. Perhaps spread more evenly over more players will be the difference?

I agree Antigua is Kentuckifying us. Bunch of Lexington businessmen lined up with green to make this happen. Probably all belong to Antigua's country club. Hope I'm wrong. Some O and B businessmen need to keep him in town. This is the sad state of the game.
