With little to go on other than following U of I hoops, some physcology and economics education and decades coaching and competing with D1 and pro athletes at various levels I guess Kofi odds 25% U of I return, 24 % UK, 23% Gonzaga 28% field...G league, Europe, show cause I mean show me state, etc.

Seems to me that the leverage angle makes the most sense...

1. Kofi likely doesn't want to learn a new system with different players when he can return to a system and players that he is comfortable with.

2. Entering the portal is an easy way to ensure that He's not leaving anything on the table.

I keep thinking about the early part of the season where he struggled to catch Curbelo's passes inside. Why relearn that kind of chemistry if you don't have to?

My guess the people in his ear are more about the $$ than the BBIQ. But that's just my guess
I'm sure you're right. I'm also positive they're not thinking the long game (having any stretch of the season where he looks like he's struggling might hurt his future draft stock if he does come back), but a girl can dream.

Still Believe that Kofi not hiring an agent (when he easily could have) means he has not closed the door on coming back. And who knows with fresh financial incentive to return...

Wonder if it had anything to do with Curbelo partnership with the CU

Kofi is an Illini great regardless what he does next. We were lucky to have him for two years, we were a bad team when he visited. He needs to make a living and will need to look at the best situation for the upcoming year.

A bad look isn't Kofi going to a blueblood, but Illini fans bashing him on social media. Kofi has been a class act and gave 110% effort, show class and understanding.

That being said, Illinois can showcase Kofi vs. being a new player on a McAA filled roster.

Yeah it really is a shame when people can get paid for their talents.
I take no issue with the payments. It’s the free to jump teams at the drop of the hat now. I understand it in hardship situations or if coaches leave. I don’t think it’s the best thing for the sport if it’s because the other school is going to pay more money. But hey, the NBA ratings are through the roof…..

I don't think that will be the case long term, though. There are a lot of temporary transfer rules right now. My guess is we will see one awkward wave and then things will settle down a bit.

I hope you’re right. But, if this is as good as it seems for the blue bloods, I’m sure it will stay.

With our incredibly more impressive alumni, I don't get how Kofi couldn't make more $$$ with NIL from Illinois than Kentucky. Do we not have one mega fan? Unwillingness to play dirty in the past is one thing, but now that it's legal I don't see how we couldn't match UK bag for bag.

On top of that, I'd rather play with Belo than TyTy (who is presumably out for him self more) if my goal is to increase my draft stock. Just doesn't make sense IMO.

I'm not convinced the blue bloods will be THAT much better off than us. We are a good.enough program with enough national exposure that it should attract national brands for players who are good enough.

I'd be more worried about places like UCLA who have national draw AND a much larger local economy to draw from.

Well he could've released a statement by now saying it doesn't mean he's leaving Illinois, etc. but he doesn't seem interested in damage control which tells me he's not coming back.
You should have realized that the world doesn't care to your needs and on your timeline.

Kentucky hasn’t even passed the NIL
