Recently, I rediscovered an old cassette tape of the MI entitled "Difficult to Describe." When I was a baby, I had my parents play it ad nauseum so that I could stand in front of the stereo system and "conduct" the ensemble. Inspired, I looked online for recordings of it, and couldn't find any, to my surprise. It's possible that the University itself has it digitized somewhere, but it's not readily findable to somebody who's pretty good at Google-fu. The tape's special to me not only because it was the soundtrack to Toddler Spoon House, but I ended up attending Gary Smith's camp later on as a drum major, and loved the guy to pieces (who doesn't?).
One $25 gizmo later and I'm pulling the audio onto my computer to break up into tracks and make into an organized album. I was ultimately going to put it up on YouTube so that it finally has a home on the Internet, but, I thought, why stop there?
If anyone has any other Illini-related cassettes that they'd like saved from oblivion before the tape itself crumbles into dust, PM me. We'll figure something out, and I'll get your Illini memorabilia immortalized. I'll update this post with the link, on the off-chance anyone else has any interest.
