I'm pretty sure that's not how it's supposed to work:

“Supposed to”

Also - that is more about allowing athletes to return to finish their degree after they go pro. Yes. They can’t “revoke” a scholarship, but they can certainly “advise” them on the situation next year and whether they would be better suited transferring to another school (if they graduate, they will be immediately eligible wherever they go I believe).

I’ll ask my kids. They tell me “that’s not how it works” in response to north of 50% of the things I say.

They also can't pull the scholarship for basketball reasons, like "you didn't play well" or "we like the freshmen coming in more." Of course, they can say "you don't really figure into our plans next year" but the player can still choose to stay, and you can't pull his scholarship. It's not the coach's decision, it is the player's decision, in the end.

My understanding is 4 years are guaranteed. I think a 5th year is up to the coach. That said, Slim Jake and Hutcherson will be 5th year seniors this season. To return as 6th year super seniors; they would have to be invited back.

Does the sit out year count towards that? I don't believe they count against the scholarship limit during their sit out year, so not sure. If not, then this would still be both their 4th years, so that makes sense about their scholarship not being guaranteed next year. I still can't imagine we'd be telling Jake to hit the road if he contributes as much as he did last year and wants to stay. And given what people expect of Hutch this season, I would think BU would be begging him to come back if he lives up to expectations.

Yes. Though the coach can certainly push them that direction. But yes. You don’t ever see “coach ____ places ____ in the transfer portal”. The kid always has the ability to say “nah I’ll stick it out” but I’m sure some coaches more than others can be quite persuasive

If we land both Whitmore and Corhen, and we are able to keep Bass on board, we just recruited ourselves a whole starting 5!
I think Bass has already been jettisoned back into the talent pool and he hasn't acknowledged it.

Staff feels they lead. Corhen would be the first to tell you that no one is recruiting him harder than Chester. I believe he could be the next commit.

If Chester can land Harris, Epps, Corhen and Whitmore in his first year…

Hearing the same on all accounts. Setting up the future this year.
