Chester's Twitter account got hacked but he's back. Looks like we're getting some serious attention!!
Think there was a guy called Butkus who wore 51. Not sure anyone remembers him.Was wondering if the new guys had picked their uniform numbers yet or not, so I checked fightingillini.com and there is no number listed by their names. That led to me thinking about what number I'd pick if I was in their shoes. Instead of taking a "popular" number, would it be "cooler" to take a less used number and be known as the best guy to wear that number in Illinois history? So I did some research, going back to to 1980 and seeing which uniform numbers get used and which ones don't.
If a newcomer wants to be known for a certain jersey number in Illinois history, then they should definitely pick number 51 or 53. Only 2 players (Ed Cisowski and Brian Thiede) have played a game with #51 and they each played in one game. Only 1 player (John Steele) has played a game wearing #53 and he played in 4 games.
Did Butkus play basketball at Illinois too, because I believe he wore 50 for Illini on football field. Or maybe you don’t remember that.Think there was a guy called Butkus who wore 51. Not sure anyone remembers him.

I don’t know if he could hit all of those numbers, but watching him play, it’s like there is visible improvement in all facets of his game with each game he plays. It has really amazed me. So… who knows? Maybe.Prediction #2

To bad the Cubbies front office lost their "awareness" for baseball talent back around 2015-2016 somewhere. Maybe BU and his staff can help them with searching out potential stars in their spare time? When was the last time an active Illini player (or any Illini player for that matter) threw out the first pitch for the Cubs? This seems to be a first... and pretty good awareness by Cubs brass about Curbelo's talent!

On a basketball boardahhhh, the offseason, where we're discussing what number a football player wore nearly 60 years ago.
In the Basketball Thread no less!ahhhh, the offseason, where we're discussing what number a football player wore nearly 60 years ago.
He wore 50 for Illinois and 51 for the Bears.Ahhhh Butkuuuus
Especially arguing that a 40% 3PT > 50% 3PT
Don't worry, it's back to super important debates over Damonte's 3 point shooting or Coleman's ability to play the 3ahhhh, the offseason, where we're discussing what number a football player wore nearly 60 years ago.

I know Ayo and family was at the Sox game within the last few years, but I don't remember if he threw out the first pitch or not. Just a few months back a lot of people were in a sky is falling mode as both Chin and OA moved onto the U of K program....for whatever reasons losing those 2 may be a setback for our program....but seeing what BU and JW have been able to do in putting together basically an entire AC staff in just a few months really speaks volumes to their abilities.....this staff appears to be every bit as strong as the previous staff....time will tell....but initial indications are we have recovered quite nicely
This has got to be one of the best positions UofI basketball has been in during July in recent memory. I bought one from Dick's, but I don't think they are selling that one anymore.Love that retro Illini football helmet logo T-shirt that Tim is wearing in that Zoom interview. Where can I get one of those?!
