When was the last time an active Illini player (or any Illini player for that matter) threw out the first pitch for the Cubs? This seems to be a first... and pretty good awareness by Cubs brass about Curbelo's talent!
The last time an Illini player got paid for taking pictures with the fans afterwards. :)

I believe it was the last time an Illini player got paid to take pictures with and sign autographs for fans after throwing out the first pitch. :D

I could hardly be more optimistic about the future of #Illini basketball. After a crazy offseason, I think the program is in great shape. Love the current roster. Love the new coaching staff. Arrows are pointing up.
The fact that this off-season we lost 3 assistants, a First Team All American, a top 30 ranked recruit in Adam Miller, yet we still have highly ranked recruits committed and we’re poised to be a pre-season top 15 team next year, shows we’re in a very good spot.

This is what building a program looks like, ladies & gents.

right because you run around all the time claiming Bobby Portis and his 47% from three for the first time in his life now makes him just as good of a shooter as Steph Curry and his 42% in fact everyone does right because .....percentages .

Tyler Underwood shot 100% so hes the best ever ...right ?

All anyone really claimed is that its not accurate to claim hes one of the best shooters in the country because its unfair to him because its basically ignoring all context.

With the NCAA hes not ranked at all in the official stats because he flat out didnt shoot enough but ESPN included everyone who attempted on average 2 attempts and who played in 75% of the games so Damonte as shown above is first . So as a board since we know that Damonte is the #1 returning shooter in the country according to ESPN lets see how much they mention it heading into the season .Its gonna be interesting to monitor as they showcase us having the best big man , arguably the best point guard ,and the best shooter in college basketball.

you can read this if you would like, I posted several threads ago. YOU are making the comparisons of pros against pros. The fact is the guy does exactly what is needed and when it is needed. A less disciplined player would see >50% from 3 and chuck em all. DMW is a smart selfless player.

at the end of the day, anyone can make a stat tell a story. But you can’t deny that he maximizes his opportunities, which puts us in a better position to succeed.

Think there was a guy called Butkus who wore 51. Not sure anyone remembers him.
Nov. 3, 1962, my parents took me this 15 year old H.S. freshman to West LaFayette, In. to watch the 0-5 Illini play the 3-1 Boilermakers who early in the season had been ranked in the top ten. Illini fans had little hope of a victory, but it was a beautiful day and unseasonably warm for that time of year. But there was talk of the play of a young soph for the Illini on defense that provided a semblance of respectability...and future. HE WORE #50 that day and every time he took the field in an Illini jersey, When he played for the Chicago Bears, he wore #51. It was somewhat of a coming out party for the great man that day as he was all over the field, helping to hold the Boilers to a single TD plus a FG while the Illini found enough offensive success from QB Mike Taliaferro (pronounced Tolliver) to get to the end zone twice and win the game 14-10, one of only two wins that season. But they got better the next year, adding talented RB Jim Grabowski to the backfield, and won the B1G title and the Rose Bowl....a special trip my parents took to see that historic moment.

IIRC, Underwood said the roster is set for this season. I.e. they'll hold the one scholarship open. I'd love for one of the beat reporters to ask him to walk us through that decision. Seems like with the covid rule this season, there would be someone out there that would be good to add to the roster, and you'd have no downside.

Our roster is already too deep to the point where most of our freshman probably won’t see the court much. You really want to add another body to sit the bench and transfer after the season bc he didn’t play enough. I’m already worried about how many will transfer next year bc they didn’t play enough without adding another scholarship player

I feel that is way too early to say that. We really don't know how good they are yet. I dont want to get back on the 3/4 CH topic again but if DMW splits time between those spots I expect one to step up, much like AC did last year. We really don't know what we have yet in the 3 freshman or really Hutch even though we are confident on him. BU wanted length and shooting on the wings and I think its more likely than not at least one of them steps up and plays minutes as the season rolls along.

There is a free article on 247 that I saw on Twitter that addresses this. Sorry, not adept at linking, but sure someone can (or maybe has already).

I could be not remembering correctly but I feel like there was also mention about the potential to add someone mid-season if there was a good fit as well.
