I was at the game in 1986 where we lost 59-14. I left when it was 28-0 (first quarter).
I stayed until the half, maybe not even that long. Walked across the street to Scott Hall and watched the rest on TV with a friend. It was such a beat down. That was a rough season. About the only bright spot was upsetting a ranked Iowa team.

Exactly. Hope the injuries to Hart and Peters aren’t long term. Next man up I guess

Is it too soon to start investing in bronze for the Bielema statue outside Memorial Stadium in 20 years?

Its probably somewhere in one of the pregame, game or post-game threads, but was Brian Hightower hurt today? I remember seeing something that Nebraska had posted saying he was out, and he obviously didn't play today. But I didn't hear anything referring to him in the broadcast and, again, haven't seen it in any of the Loyalty posts. Great win....lots of big mistakes by Nebraska but we'll certainly take it. Heaven knows we've given away enough games with big mistakes over the years. Lots of growing to do, though. Hope Brandon is not out for long but Artur sure picked it up in relief. Also hope Calvin Hart's injury is not serious......man was he huge today or what!

And I remember the Illini loss to Nebraska in 1985 52-25. Remember the score from the palindrome. They were so much faster and bigger than we were. The score made it seem we competed. We did not. So nice to just win. Go Illini! We are entering a new era.
Correction, I was at the one Keith Jones ran roughshod on us.

I'll let you know after I assess my take from looting the neighboring village of its precious metals in the wake of this shocking August development. Oh, and after I finish constructing my shrine to BB in my utility shed. All I've got is an old Buddha I picked up in Thailand. Close enough. His girlish figure is growing on me. ;)

EDIT: Grange Grove on the First Street side; Bielma Beach on the Fourth Street side. The Baal-like statue to him can sit in the center of it after we melt everything down. I just know I'm going to wake up tomorrow regretting my embarrassing enthusiasm for beating a Scott Frost-coached team.

Congratulations to Coach B and Illini Nation!

If I'm being honest, I feel a little bad for Nebraska fans. I've heard they're great to enjoy games with, and we all know how agonizing it is to face a lost season in August. As if there's not enough pain in the world, they had staked their hopes on a convincing victory, and watched their team hurt itself over and over again. We know how awful that feels, so my sympathies go out to them this season. (I still think they'll make a bowl...but will that be better or worse for the fan base and recruiting? Frost cannot survive into next year, can he?)

Such a great win to start BB's era. Lots to improve upon, but they showed some competence, some discipline, and some breakout potential. Great stuff!

Who is Johnson? Ha. Also, when the heck did Spann switch to receiver? Thought everyone was pretty excited about him at QB.
Transfer from Northern Michigan. Walk on. Great story. Had major success up there (granted, several levels down).

any word on Ford? concussion protocol? i really think he and Barker could be tremendous this year; remember so many Wisky TEs killing it back in the day

Bielema is worth 2-3 wins - a lot for a team that still could use more talent. I knew Illinois would win at the start of the 4th quarter because there would be no Illinois turnovers or dumb plays. I am from Illinois but live near DC and that is the kind of game that a Locksley coached Maryland would lose.
