We have gone from transfer Wes Lunt (14, 15,16) to walk-on Jeff George Jr (17) to transfer Brandon Peters (18, 19, 20, 21) to transfer Arthur Sitkowski (21, probably 22 and 23). Any chance there is a quarterback recruited as a freshman in our future?

This is a really interesting point. Could we see a greater trend of middle-class/lower-class P5 schools start heavily leaning on transfer QBs instead of successful QB development? It's been a trend for lots of G5 programs for a while now.

We took a Pro Style QB in the 2022 class, that I'd assume fits the mold of what Beilema and Peterson want.

Hmmm, where have I heard this before? Oh, that's right, about 5 messages earlier haha.

We have one that fits exactly the mold that Brett wants. Will he be a star? probably not, but he seems like a prototypical QB that BB has won with in the past. But, yes we will take a QB in every class

its been a trend all across FBS football lately - see O$U, NW, LSU, scUM, GA, Auburn, OU etc

2 more scholarships opened up.

Cooper Davis Quinton McCoy, and Brandon Hohenstein are no longer with the program. Only Davis and McCoy were on scholarship.

This is interesting. Travon Riggins and Cooper Davis were two of the more highly regarded dline recruits we’ve gotten and they are gone already. I have faith BB can find replacements, though.

I'm surprised about Cooper Davis. He was my sleeper in the class.

Is this transfer related or off field issues? Timing seems odd
I thought BB had a press availability today. I would think someone would ask. I don’t see any of them listed in the transfer portal yet.

Only thing I can think of…went through camp hoping to be in the rotation/ or progressing for the future; and then didn’t look like they were going to be In. The rotation/ not a good fit for the future. Transfer before the first game so you don’t lose a year? Is the rule play less than 4 games and can maintain a redshirt still in play??? Been awhile since having to think about it.

Not necessarily. Davis was recruited as a DE and I think Walters and Bielema tried to figure out where he'd fit on Defense and I guess he wouldn't be the answer at OLB the way they envisioned their defense. He was small in size for DE and not necessarily a fit as a DE in this defense.

He was TE #5 (I think) but he was more of a project since he hadn't played on the offensive side.

McCoy was buried behind a handful of others (i,e. Avery, Woods, etc).

Hohenstein was similar to Davis in that he's buried on depth chart.

Seems more like a playing time/fit type of move.

I grew up in middle of nowhere Illinois and the best athletes were always the quarterbacks, the idea being you want your most gifted player to touch the ball every play (granted we weren't very good). I'm not surprised these guys can play multiple positions well.
It's kind of like MLB teams drafting a bunch of high school shortstops and moving them to different positions. It's all about getting the most talented athletes first and then figuring out where they fit later.

Every P5 team is over the scholarship limit based on the exception from the COVID extension for eligibility. I wouldn’t look at this as two more scholarships opened up but more as these are two of the players leaving that will make up the “deficit” for next year.

Is Carnell Tate a thing or just a pipe dream? Saw his commitment is set for next month after recently visiting Illinois
