I saw that start time. How does a person even tailgate for an 11am local kickoff? Bacon? Scones? Mimosas and avocado toast?

This is a huge reason why I so dislike 11 AM starts. If you come from out of town, you pretty much have to stay overnight, but it has to be out of town like Tuscola. No property in C-U proper offers any less than a two night stay. And it's true, beer drinking is out and the cuisine is limited. Almost not worth lighting the charcoal on the grill. You have to be packed up on the parking lot and start the trek to the stadium shortly after 10 AM. Back in my day, all games were at 1:00, and we liked it.

1-3:30 is like perfect. Lol at beer drinking being out, but I get what you’re saying. Cuisine point is bang on…CU at that time of day for food blows.

It'll be interesting to see what the Chase's can do.

And I'm pretty sure we'll see BP in the game at some point. Let the QB controversy begin.

so seriously , our game is not going to be anywhere on the normal spectrum of Fox, ESPN nor B1GNetwork?

its on the ACC Network , which no one really carries around Chicago area,
but we can get it on Hulu if we have that (I dont)
or can we stream it on the internet ?

You're correct, you have to stay overnight. My crew and I stayed Friday and Saturday. Out to the lot at 7 am for set up (some of the crew arrived later, around 9 am), Bloody Marys/screwdrivers, etc., light breakfast food like donuts, pastries, breakfast sandwiches. There were times we made breakfast on teh grill. Beer drinking starts at 9:30 or 10 am. Of the crew that went to the game, we'd bring a 32 ounce cup of beer to the stadium for the walk over. Those who did not go to the game were charged with the responsibility of firing up the grill. Grill master left at half time (most of us did as well) then lunch around 1 pm or so. Cornhole tourney, bocce ball, tunes (we'd listen to the game on the radio until it was over), continued beer drinking until around 6 pm. Disassemble the tailgate, head back to hotel room, shower, then head out for more beer drinking. Because the crew was made up of folks from all over the country, we could only schedule one game per season. If I were to go to every game, I'd forego the tailgating, hit a bar before the game for food and beer then drive back after the game.
We used to be able to get one night stays at the Ramada Inn out by Rt 74 but could have been folks coming in Saturday looking to crash for the night, not coming in Friday and looking to leave Saturday. I honestly don't recall; it's been awhile since we did that since I moved from Illinois in 2013.

I don't disagree with 1 pm starts being better, especially if you want to travel day of game, but me and my crew always had a great time staying the weekend and we did not mind 11 am starts.

Btw, just wanted to note since I found this out myself: ACC Network is available as part of the basic package on YoutubeTV and Sling TV, and is part of an add-on package for FuboTV.

If you're still paying the cable company instead of using one of these streaming-based services, and you've got good enough internet to reliably stream things, I would highly recommend switching.

Take it from me, a leading expert in spending entire Saturdays on the couch watching as many college football games as possible, often on multiple screens.

Werner had a good podcast with the UVA reporter.
Sounds like secondary may be a relative weakness ( based on last year)…not sure Illini can take advantage of it. Need some confidence!
They also have a position called FBP …football person. An athlete to create chaos for some packages. Sounds pretty cool and inventive. Can’t wait to see it operate.

We got bumped to 11am because it appears Rutgers -Syracuse is a more marquee matchup at 2pm
But like, why isn't that at 2:30 like every other game? 11AM and 2:30PM Central are the slots.

ESPN has been an implacable enemy of staggering start times for college football for years, why this one bizarre exception?

Gonna be a wild day on the ACC Network on Saturday. The rarest of the rare: a quadruple-header with only 3 hours scheduled for each game. In other words, the ACCN has guaranteed that Syracuse, Clemson & FSU viewers will miss the early minutes of their games. Unless of course they've setup an easy-to-access backup broadcast location :)

10:00 AM Illinois vs. Virginia
1:00 PM Rutgers vs. Syracuse
4:00 PM South Carolina State vs. #6 Clemson
7:00 PM Jacksonville State vs. Florida State
All times CT

I was hoping this would be the game we see Beason playing a part. Was super excited to see him recruited and then the dreadful ACL. Next a quad I believe. He is an athlete that needs playing time. Will be watching the game. Go Illini. We have two games under our belt against two descent teams. It wasn't like we played Kent State and then Morehead now going into VA. Let's hope Art doesn't just throw his passes over the heads of the receivers. Josh McCray looked pretty good running the ball. I think we got a steal of a recruit in him.

Ah, that explains it. Illinois-Virginia is the marquee game, the only one shown in its entirety and the lead-in for the rest of the slate following in its wake.

Nah, this is why God created free trials and multiple email accounts.

I'll keep my money-saving cable and fast internet bundle, and Hallmark channel, thank you.

My sarcasm meter may be off, but this IS sarcasm, right? I've never seen the words money-saving cable used together...lol!
