You would think we lost the recruits already, it's two pointless crystal balls that "insiders" take shots at getting right in case the recruit commits quickly after a visit. I have faith in the BOOMS.

Edit: Indy has real connections considering he boomed Curbelo in 2019 before I had time to post that I literally witnessed Curbelo's commitment to Illinois.

I don't doubt Indy has info. Just looking like his info may have been unreliable on this one. One easy way to find out though. Indy, boom 3 times if you still stand by your prior double boom!

Worried he’s a hedge on Cohren. Seem to be different players but play the same position, although they could conceivably play together. Interesting that he’s higher rated on 247, but I think Cohren fits what we want to do better and has better offers. With 2 OVs in the books I was feeling pretty good about Cohren. Hope this doesn’t mean things have changed.
All non-Plan A guys are hedges. But, yeah, not great, Bob, on Corhen.

Anyone know how staff views Pence and Asa Thomas, specifically is there a preference and would they take both?

Info wasn't unreliable. Illinois still could get him. They led going into his visit here. Dad was always a lean towards FSU though and the staff knew that. Dad is enamored with all the guys Hamilton has put in the league.
So then I guess it really does all come down to differing interpretations of what the Boom gif means...

FWIW I would never have equated "we're in the running" with "Boom", but that's just me

Guys with…very similar skill sets to his son. I can see why he’d be enamored. And the fact that FSU wants him reflects highly on our staff to ID talent. Just based on what the kid has said it seems like he has a really strong connection with Chester. Hopefully that wins out. But can’t blame a family who has professional aspirations for their son for selecting a program with a great track record of achieving those aspirations.

We certainly don’t have the NBA draft successes to sell (yet) but I do think kids are starting to realize the NBA will find you if you have talent, regardless of whether you are at a blue blood, nba factory, etc.

Does dad not understand the guys Hamilton “put” into the league were already *going* to the league? Obviously rhetorical, and obviously we’ve seen this movie play out before. On to the next.

Yet another parent living the jackpot dream through their kid. Who'd have thunk?

Not necessarily. If one of my kids is in the ballpark of going pro in a sport, you better believe I am going to try to help sort out the best college choice for them in terms of realizing that dream and I will be doing it for them. Would that ultimately benefit me some, as well? Sure. But in the end I just really want to see my kids succeed in what they do.

I don't know why we would assume Corhen's dad is any different without evidence to the contrary.

Exactly Hamilton's system has lots of examples of players with Cohens skill set in the NBA. That's a great point to sell and seeing as we haven't shown that yet would make sense how they would give them an edge over us(at least in that regard)

IF all of this is true it seems like the perfect time to push NIL. I would find it very surprising if a basketball player at FSU had higher earning potential than at UofI. As evidenced by the lack of information from that side of the recruitment no one cares about FSU basketball. Recruiting is changing. Getting to the NBA is only a part of the equation now.

Question: Can university coaches and other official reps push the NIL opportunities during the recruiting process?

I get it. Hamilton has actually been a pretty sub par coach throughout his career with all the talent he gets.
He’s a high floor, low ceiling coach. He’s also getting up there, I think he’s 72-73? Hope Corhen can steer his own ship on this, love his fit. I do think his dad is delusional if he thinks he is a Barnes/Williams level talent.

I think the perfect time to push NIL is after our guys ink lucrative deals which doesn't seem to have happened yet.

IMO, the type of deals you are thinking about (i.e. national sponsors) aren’t going to happen until the season is in full swing and Kofi and Belo are on Sportscenter a ton. Because of how new this is, NIL may not pay any recruiting dividends for us until we have past examples to show. Although, if we have donors that are willing to work with NIL, that could all change.

So you're telling me a parent should have his child's interests ahead of the interests of the team I personally root for?!
