Apologies if this has been posted...but after reading 0440's "someone like Monte" comment...I got excited and started watching some clips.

Also apologies for the source....but lmao at the potential scUM schadenfreude!

Forward to :46 sec and watch his perimeter defense!! A solid 15-20 seconds of D! Impressive.

Reminds me of pre-injury Damonte who was also an offensive beast and more explosive in HS

You rarely see a H.S. kid play defense like that! He also looks a legit 6'7, and has the handles you want for a SF. Certainly not the crazy run-jump athlete that Whitmore is, but not many are.
A versatile, talented, legit 3 is something that can transform a good team into a final four team, and a final four team into a champion. It’s also a position we’ve struggled with for many years. When we’ve had it (e.g., Malcolm Hill), the surrounding cast and/or coaching has been bad. When we haven’t, perimeter size has exploited us. Blue bloods consistently kill it by recruiting elite talent at that position. I’m excited that Brad et al. have brought in large wings and are targeting some studs for future classes.

To be fair, Blue Bloods recruit elite talent at every position (and frequently two or more deep elite talent at every position). And the most important positions are still 1. PG and 2. Bigs (often the toughest to land).

Agree. Rodgers is a crazy good leaper, but Whitmore has that crazy NBA lottery athleticism. Looks to be a dog on defense and would gladly take him.

@Indy Illini Fan Can we get a boom for Whitmore?

No can do. However, might be giving one soon for another prospect...

Michigan getting an early start to their 2024 with a commitment from Christian Anderson. The PG out of Atlanta is listed at only 5-8, 125, but his dad is 6-6 and played some ball himself.

If Whitmore really is a lottery talent and will be gone after a year I’d much rather have Rodgers who’s likely to stay for 4

Well, sure. But you don't know that.

At the end of the day, it's moot. I'll joyously take Rodgers, if Whitmore chooses Nova.

Counterpoint is you want to prove you can get kids to the league after one year in college. This would attract more elite talent to C-U. There is no world where I’d rather have Rodgers than Whitmore. That’s not a knock against Rodgers-he is going to be a helluva college player. Whitmore is just an elite talent who is on a slightly different level.

I vote for Whitmore was waiting for an announcement that Rodgers was indeed transferring to IL HS (and essentially confirming he would commit to the Illini), and now that he has it he is ready to commit to Illinois too.
My heart is saying that Whitmore is choosing the Illini so he doesn't miss out, but my head is saying that he's bound for Nova. Makes sense with the coaching staff heavily involved with Rodgers lately
