Reminds me of pre-injury Damonte who was also an offensive beast and more explosive in HSApologies if this has been posted...but after reading 0440's "someone like Monte" comment...I got excited and started watching some clips.
Also apologies for the source....but lmao at the potential scUM schadenfreude!
Ty Rodgers scouting report: What Michigan fans can expect if the four-star commits
Michigan was recently named in his top nine.www.maizenbrew.com
Forward to :46 sec and watch his perimeter defense!! A solid 15-20 seconds of D! Impressive.
A versatile, talented, legit 3 is something that can transform a good team into a final four team, and a final four team into a champion. It’s also a position we’ve struggled with for many years. When we’ve had it (e.g., Malcolm Hill), the surrounding cast and/or coaching has been bad. When we haven’t, perimeter size has exploited us. Blue bloods consistently kill it by recruiting elite talent at that position. I’m excited that Brad et al. have brought in large wings and are targeting some studs for future classes. You rarely see a H.S. kid play defense like that! He also looks a legit 6'7, and has the handles you want for a SF. Certainly not the crazy run-jump athlete that Whitmore is, but not many are.
To be fair, Blue Bloods recruit elite talent at every position (and frequently two or more deep elite talent at every position). And the most important positions are still 1. PG and 2. Bigs (often the toughest to land).A versatile, talented, legit 3 is something that can transform a good team into a final four team, and a final four team into a champion. Agree. Rodgers is a crazy good leaper, but Whitmore has that crazy NBA lottery athleticism. Looks to be a dog on defense and would gladly take him.You rarely see a H.S. kid play defense like that! Well, sure. But you don't know that.If Whitmore really is a lottery talent and will be gone after a year I’d much rather have Rodgers who’s likely to stay for 4
Counterpoint is you want to prove you can get kids to the league after one year in college. This would attract more elite talent to C-U. There is no world where I’d rather have Rodgers than Whitmore. That’s not a knock against Rodgers-he is going to be a helluva college player. Whitmore is just an elite talent who is on a slightly different level. If Whitmore really is a lottery talent and will be gone after a year I’d much rather have Rodgers who’s likely to stay for 4

My heart is saying that Whitmore is choosing the Illini so he doesn't miss out, but my head is saying that he's bound for Nova. Makes sense with the coaching staff heavily involved with Rodgers latelyI vote for Whitmore was waiting for an announcement that Rodgers was indeed transferring to IL HS (and essentially confirming he would commit to the Illini), and now that he has it he is ready to commit to Illinois too.
Yeah, all signs point to this being a case of WhitNoMore for Illini. But a guy can dream. My heart is saying that Whitmore is choosing the Illini so he doesn't miss out, but my head is saying that he's bound for Nova. Makes sense with the coaching staff heavily involved with Rodgers lately
Whitmore feels like one of the most tight-lipped recruitments we've been a part of in a while, lately it's felt like decisions are known days or weeks in advance by most insiders.
