Looking forward to tonight and gaining information on what we really have with this team. Marquette is relatively inexperienced both in college playing time and playing together, but at least we’re talking about “P5” talent. Let’s face it, so far we’ve only experienced a couple of amuse-bouche. Road game against at least a decent team will give us a much truer reading on this team. I fully expect the Illini to win (would be at least a little disappointed if not by double digits), but we’ll get a little better idea about the rotation and lineup combinations. As far as individual players, I want to see how the 3 bigs perform. Has Hawk indeed taken a colossal leap forward or has some of that been merely fueled by the competition thus far? (FTR, I think Hawk has taken a step forward and will be an important contributor just not ready to anoint him a lottery pick yet as some are.). Is BBV truly ready to be a contributing part of the rotation? And did Payne just have a tough go of it last game or are there more performances like that in the future? If the latter, sure hope the question to #2 is yes.

Tonight is going to be a nice little measuring stick. We’ll see how team reacts to playing in front of a hostile crowd. And in a way, I’m a little glad Kofi is out cuz that opens up some real playing time for the 3 fore mentioned bigs. Go Illini.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — As University of Illinois basketball coach Brad Underwood arose Sunday morning, he took stock of the conditions both outside and within his Illini program.
“It’s officially basketball season,” Underwood said. “I saw the first snowflakes this morning about 6 a.m.”
Underwood also views Monday as a first.
Illinois takes on its first Power Five Conference opponent of the season, Marquette, at 6 p.m. in a Gavitt Tipoff Games matchup at the Fiserv Forum, the home of the NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks.

“We’ll take a step up, go on the road and find out who we truly are,” said Underwood, whose squad owns lopsided victories over Jackson State and Arkansas State. “We have a great test in a great venue against a great program in Marquette.”

Illinois vs. Marquette

Just checked and attendance for first two Marquette games was listed at 13k and 12k. Not sure if that’s actual butts in the seats, but given Illinois as the opponent should be a very nice crowd

Completely agree with your assessment and kudos on your inclusion of "amuse-bouche!" Go Illini! :shield:

Maybe he could switch nos. with Connor S. Doubt if anyone would notice. Pretty much look alikes.

Looking at MU’s scores versus ours to start the season is a dangerous game, but, I’m feeling a double digit victory

I wonder how this board will react when Hutch puts up 17/8/3 in his first game action.

My wife was watching the game the other night and asked why that one guy on the bench (Hutch) is always wearing street clothes. I remarked that unfortunately that seems to be Hutch's uniform. I would love to see him in game action tonight but my optimism has faded.
