Curbelo is in the locker room taking full responsibility right now. I believe that.

He's gonna eat not just a slice of humble pie...he's gonna eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a full week of practice.

As bad as he (that game) was, remember he did NOTHING basketball related for 10 straight days before one practice and one game.

But...keep the hot takes coming! It's so good with hot buttered popcorn!!

Paducah, Ky
some random thoughts.......

1...Looked like the white guard from MU knocked trent down at halfcourt
2....Then he kicked the ball
3...If I'm coaching the Illini for that last play , I call timeout and set up the play for trent in the corner for a three

Belo has this loss at his feet...no if's , no buts , no excuses.......

Brad talking about turnovers , us fouling in the backcourt , and getting Kofi back ....horrible execution
tried to get trent looks late ....silly fouls in backcourt.........we stopped moving the ball in last 5 minutes...
TO's 4 0f last 6 possessions........

We crapped our shorts and i can smell it all the way down here in Paducah......I'm stunned that a team with our experience lost this game .....marquette tried to give it away with their putrid FT shooting and the refs were who we thought they were....We should never have to play another game with Boroski and larry S**thead reffing and we got both for this game.......

Color me stunned and this game will sting for a longggggg time............

Everyone pump the breaks this was a terrible game, but I really believe will really help us later on. The NCAA will know Kofi did not play in this game.
What I really like is Curbello will need to remove BU’s boot from his butt for an entire week. He is not Earl the pearl and he needs to know it.

most disappointing thing to me was that Trent did not “make”’them foul him at the end of the game. He can’t turn his back on the defense and not expect the strip. I know it was kicked, but Trent simply had to get fouled there.

underwood has tons to work on for a week. I would not want to be Curbello for the next 7 days.

I don't think I've ever seen a worse 5 min stretch of basketball by a single player in my life. That was unreal -- it felt like a joke by the end.

That said, I don't think the call to bench Belo for the next game is going to help. If we want to be a top 25 team this year, we need him playing like he did at the end of last season. He's already going to be very down on himself after this game (and rightfully so) and won't need a benching for him to get the message. He knows he just let down all the other guys in that locker room and benching after this game will just send a message of "we don't trust you." Even if that's how it feels, I think you have to adjust your game plan/approach with him and give him a chance to show he can adjust -- if he starts playing like he just did, then you bench him. Belo had the keys to the offense handed to him this offseason and it's clear that freedom needs to be reined in and that he needs to earn the ability to have those keys like Ayo did.

He's still an unknown but man would it be helpful to get Hutch back in the fold, if only to have another potential option as ball handler/shot creator.

Finally: Darryl Morsell is our kryptonite. That dude should've been transfer priority #1, if only to keep him from killing us on another team.

Curbelo will probably vomit when he watches the replay of this game.

The biggest thing that concerns me with Belo is his shot. Having a shot to keep defenders honest is what he needs to be a great guard in this league and his shot selection and execution was terrible tn

We turned it over 15 times in the first half. It was a road game. We didn’t have our best player. Our point guard had the worst game of his career. We lost by one. Yeah the result sucked, but you guys need to relax.

This game won’t be a big deal when it’s March. Our number one seed team last year laid an egg against Mizzou. It happens. Learn from it. Bounce back.

Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but it's game 3, we didnt have our best player, we lost 2 starters from last year, and oh yeah, it's game 3. It'll be fine. This loss will motivate everybody to be better. Last year we didn't really turn the corner until January. The sky isn't falling.

Well our ball handling leaves a lot to be desired. Trent needed the ball more at the end but flat blew it with 30 seconds left. Why Underwood doesn’t call a timeout to get something set up with 18 seconds left I don’t know. Hopefully this is a huge wake up to Curbelo, Coleman about playing under control. I guess Verdonk can only rebound. Our new transfers didn’t show me much.

I’ll play devil’s advocate here. Curbelo’s an emotional player and an instinct player. If he’s going to clean up the turnovers this season, it’s gotta start with some emotional maturity. Getting benched on the way to a W only hurts as far as your own pride goes; being handed the reins to lead your team and teammates straight to an L — that stings way more (at least, I hope it does). Show the tape while those feelings are fresh and let’s see if Curbelo’s as quick a learner as Kofi has been the last two seasons.
Agree here and I bet that's what BU does.

I’m sorry, I really love your posts and this is not meant to start anything, but to imply that 10 straight days off had anything to do with the utter selfishness?

As bad as Curbelo was and his plY killed us. It is frustrating that Trent played so well and has his head turned and gets picked like that. That turnover with a 1 ot lead was killer. Should have been shooting free throws.

I've never seen a starter caliber player sabotage his team's chance at victory more than Curbelo has tonight.
I agree. Should have put the ball in Trent Frazier’s hands.

When are people going to realize BU has an inability to make in game adjustments? This game of high pick and roll only works when you spread the floor with shooters. What’s the point of bringing in shooters if you want to keep them on the bench? Williams has no offensive ability and it’s like constantly playing 4 on 5 on the offensive end.

Underwood was pantsed by Loyola’s coach in the NCAA tournament last year, and he hasn’t learned a thing. No in-game adjustments. Just continue to let Curbelo dribble out the clock on every play, and then turn the ball over. Masterful coaching.
