I think that's the best I've seen this year from our Illini. Observations:
-Having the seniors take the PG duties seems to have improved the offense and lowered turnovers.
-Cockburn looked as good as ever tonight overall.
-Plummer seems like a great offensive threat, like Frazier.
-RJ and Goode seem like really solid freshmen players out there. Can be in the rotation, few mistakes.
-Need to improve the defense and blockout/rebounding.
-It was so helpful to have Frazier and Grandison back tonight, both with nice contributions.

Kofi.................ELITE...........knocked down a 15 ft shot and reeked havoc in the paint...ND had no answer
Trent...............ELITE.......the heartbeat of the team................shot was off a little but played 30 + mins
DMW..............ELITE......typical all around game.........rebs.....played good D
Plummer........ELITE....shot good in first half........hit all his FT's.....D still a project but better
RJ ....................Good .started and hit two 3pters first half.....
Goode..........plays so poised for a frosh.......fought for jump ball and brought back Lucas J. memories
CoHawk......rough first half...played better second half ....nice offensive put back bucket late
Jake...............hit a couple 3's and played good for not practicing

Coach Underwood just said in the radio interview that DMW was throwing up at halftime and why he didn't start second half...

JMHO , our second half start tonight was one of the better starts in memory......

Game thread still hurts to read and wonder why people post such negative BS , but that's their choice.........NOT MINE ..........................

GO ILLINI ...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And don't forget Omar Payne. His performance in the defensive end was awesome in that 6 minutes, even better than Kofi in that end: Kofi is a bit slow to guard their forward Laszewski

Underwood said he couldn’t start Da’Monte in the second half because he was in the locker room throwing up. Tough man.

To follow up on my own point I think part of it was the team playing under control but it also helped not playing a team that uses a lot of pressure like Marquette and Cincy.
Not sure ND has personnel to apply pressure defense but allowing Illinois to bring up and start offense without any pressure is recipe for ILL - INI wins

Really satisfying win! Was really concerned about this one with all the injuries/illnesses. Making free throws, shooting 3's well, and Kofi having his usual strong game are encouraging. Kudos to Plummer living up to the expectations as of late; we needed it! Defense needs a lot of work. Hopefully we are on the mend this week. Even tougher games coming up, but we seem to be progressing and getting some guys valuable minutes.
Indeed, the improvement was striking. :) A lot to be happy about…We played as a team and the effort was back! On defense there were A LOT of possessions where we lacked: concentration, communication, and solid decision-making. On the brightside, tho. it’s already gotten better.

I definitely see what Underwood was talking about in that presser about the straight line drive issues…We DID do better at trying to turn the offense sideline/keeping them out of the middle overall I think. But still plenty of bad too.

Several times we were just late to close-outs and then would end up overplaying and get burnt on the drive. Then so often there was ZERO help defense whatsoever…

Oh well, things are trending upward it looks like. Enjoy the win!

that was in the back of my mind all game. I remember that miserable fkn day clearly. I had set my VCR (!) to record the game while I was stuck at work. I stopped in a bar to grab some food on the way home from work, planning to enjoy some food and watch the tape. Then I saw the damn score on TV while I was waiting in the bar. It was cold, raining and I just remember the rest of my day was so dark and depressing.
You should have felt the depression of actually paying money to watch it in person. Awful. Absolutely miserable… So glad the Illini put that memory in the rear view mirror tonight. P.S. If it’s true that Damonte was puking at halftime, that kid, along with Trent, are the two toughest Illini basketball players in history. The both spent a ton of time on the floor in the second half, taking charges, playing defense, and trying to score…they both looked like they were hurting…And no, I didn’t realize that new tough kid on the block, RJ, had rolled his ankle and kept on playing…

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) Kofi Cockburn scored 28 points, Alfonso Plummer added 21 and Illinois defeated Notre Dame 82-72 on Monday night in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

Illinois (4-2) pushed the lead to 71-63 at the final official timeout then made 11 of 12 free throws in the final three minutes, including 8 for 8 by Plummer.

Well now we know why RJ was limited in the second half.

Guys gutting it out for each other. This team could come together with serious depth after all of this.

Any team that can put pressure on the guards is going to make it more difficult for Illinois to run their offense. It will be a true test when they have to deal with a swarming guard defense. If they can manage thru that, they can beat anybody.

Second straight game Kofi and Plummer have done lion’s share of scoring, though in this game AP made as big a mark from the free throw line as he did beyond the three-point line. But in no way were the contributions limited to just those two. Super seniors had a calming, steadying influence and had 11 assists and 4 TO. Hawk played solid second half. Two freshmen both showed flashes and the good out weighed the bad. And Grandy has the quietest 9 points (3-4 shooting from 3), 4 rebound and 4 assist game you’ll likely see all year.

Good win tonight- high effort and good ball movement make such a huge difference!

Kofi is really efficient - it will be exciting when everyone is back
