Just watched the game (had it recorded) and think too many people listened to the “homer” announcers. They are good but don’t think they have answer for Kofi and just need DMW to shut down Mathurin. Not predicting a victory but comparing them to Gonzaga is a real stretch.

Damonte is one of the best defenders in college basketball, he will lockdown Mathurin. Coleman locked down Harper Jr. and Murray for 90% of the Iowa game who are two of the best players in college basketball, he can guard Tubelis without getting in foul trouble just fine.

We have an offensive advantage with Tubelis trying to guard Coleman, we have one of the best leaders in the country in Trent who is finally getting right after being injured or sick all year, one of the best pure scorers in the Big and honestly in the entire NCAA in Plummer, one of the sneakiest good players I've ever seen in Grandison who is also a + on defense and has the length to guard their long guards/forwards. Oh, and a NPOY candidate in Kofi.

Plus this will be the most electric crowd the SFC has seen in probably 15 years. I, personally, have a great feeling about this one because after we win, we will be back in the top 25 were we belong.

The other weird fan psychology thing - which was rampant on the Iowa board this week - is tearing down a team that just beat you. Even though it’s objectively better for your team if everyone thinks the team that beat you is good, some fans are so mad about the loss that they like have to get a dig in at the other team and talk about how it’s a “bad loss,” even if that means their team is worse.

IU fans have done this for years. Every loss is “pathetic” to a “terrible” team. It’s like a weird thing they do to comfort themselves that at least their standards are like so high!! In an odd way, it’s like the kid who’s so afraid of failing that he doesn’t even try and talks about how stupid the game is, lol.

I think some underestimate how hard it is to practice for months, get your play sets, etc, and then have a very limited lineup at the beginning of the season. I think we are starting to click (and that's without the consensus second best player on the team), and seem to be getting better. At the start of the season, the Illini were ranked #11, and Arizona was out of the Top 25 at #29. We haven't gotten that much worse and Arizona hasn't gotten that much better to convince me that we shouldn't be favored to win this game, especially at home. Arizona has not faced a real challenge yet, and there is no way to know how they will react when they do.

If we're going to lose one game in the next ten, this is the one to lose. I seem to also recall the Pac 12 surprising the nation with 3 teams in the 2021 NCAA Elite Eight. I think they (the Pac 12) have the secret sauce.......speed and athleticism. A fast, open game with lots of athletes. May make us look slow and lethargic.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. The other thing everyone forgets is the two losses we have are when we were sick and Kofi was suspended. We are much better now than when those losses took place.

I know we are a borderline psychotic fan base, but I can’t find anything on any Arizona fan forum about the upcoming game. Just weird for a fairly big program and our history with them.
