Have bad memories of that place from the 1988 NCAA tournament ...

Where the #3 seed Illini - with all of the players who started for the 1989 Final 4 team in key roles (plus Glynn Blackwell and Jens Kujawa) - blew a 10 point lead over Villanova in the last 3 minutes of a second round game (by, among other things, missing the front end of 5 consecutive one and one FT opportunities while Villanova made 4 3FGs). Trib article: Free Throws Cost Illinois

The double bonus rule change giving 2 shots for FTs upon the 10th foul of the half was not implemented until a couple of years later, and likely would have changed the outcome.
This is probably an irrational belief, but I feel like free throws have given me a near heart attack even with about 75% of good Illini teams over the years...

As for pregame spots, are there any EXPLICITLY Mizzou spots I should avoid? :)

The local UofI alumni club used to use DBs in Soulard as a meeting spot and watch party. Would see Steve Roth there a lot.
Not sure if it still is. Haven’t been there in years.

DBs has good food. Service blows. Not kid friendly, it's almost a skin bar.
My union hall is next door to DBs. I do not love it.

I may be sipping the Kool-aid a bit more than others still at this point in the season. But I really see this being a blood bath as long as Illinois continues to hit their shots at the rate they have been.

My best bet is that Kofi will be guarded by Kobe Brown (6-8 240), who is also their best player. In my opinion he is a worse version of EJ Lidell who has been able to handle Kofi at times, but Kobe will not have an ohio state-level team surrounding him. If Kofi can tire out Kobe, and maybe even get him in some foul trouble this game will be a cake walk.

But at the same time it's Braggin' rights anything can happen.

My favorite place to go before has been Ball Park Village in recent years. Always a great and entertaining crowd of Illinois and Mizzou fans, with also a more than plentiful amount of TVs with all the games on. If you're trying to find a table and sit, would make sure to get their ASAP.

Wheelhouse has good bar food, a ton of t.v.’s and is close to the stadium. But, it will be crawling with Mizzou fans and it will be very busy. I’m also pretty sure its not 21+ til 10 but I haven’t lived in stl in 3 years.

Caleco’s has decent pizza and is on the other side of downtown (near the old courthouse/arch). Lots of seating and its located under a parking garage so it won’t be a problem getting in and out.

If you don’t mind driving 10-15 minutes past downtown into the city, I’d recommend pi pizza (deep dish-ish) in the central west end (better than Caleco’s).

That neighborhood will also have a lot more going on than downtown. But I’d only recommend that if you were getting in town at least 2-3 hours before the game.

Those places are more casual places which I figured you would be looking for with teenagers. But, if you wanted to get slightly more fancy there’s a ton of great restaurants all over Stl, I’m happy to give you some of those recs too.
Sadly, Caleco's permanently closed after 25 years at the same location.

Yep, someone had to do it. Like the guy who puts his snow shovel away on March 20th, inviting the blizzard on April 5th.

It's now Illinois in a nail-biter after going 3-23 from the arc.

Can someone please give us matchups for tonight's UI vs UM game.

I haven't seen any Mizzou games. I know Brown will be a handful, and I agree with those who expressed Picket will have his best game of the year. Who else should concern us.

So I was curious about Tilmon. Would he be a difference maker if he had come back for season 5? After a really good game in 2018, here's how he did the last two games with Kofi playing.

You forgot other side of equation. Though Kofi’s scoring (13 an 19) in those two games was at about his season averages, his rebounding (2 and 6) was below. And I believe MO out rebounded Illini in both games. Kofi definitely got better of Tilmon, but not sure he didn’t help contribute to keeping Kofi off boards. I mean how often has Kofi played 30 minutes and gotten only 2 rebounds? And the 6 rebound game was the only game in a string of 14 he wasn’t in double figures.

Missouri is known as the ‘Show-Me’ State.

One version of this saying is that those folks in Missouri possess a stubborn personality that demands that something must be proven to them before they’ll accept it as true.

Another version of this is that those in Missouri have be shown how to do things because they don’t know how to do things.

So in the context of the Big Game with Show-Me State U...

Whether someone living on the Left Side of the River possesses a stubborn need to be shown something before they’ll believe it... OR they simply need to be shown because they need to be shown...

IT’S TIME, ILLINI. SHOW THEM.

Don't forget the chocolate shake. Served in the old school metal mixing glass
There is a great collection of Coca cola memorabilia on the wall. A set of old framed ads with athletes. Red is among them. Pretty cool, along with all the nostalgia in the place.
BLT is great. Chili better than skyline all day.
Truly is a candy store too. Many goodies to be had.
