Illinois #10 in NET ranking

I find it interesting that six of the Top 20 have yet to win their 5th game of the season when Quad 4 wins are excluded. Excluding their undefeated (of course) Quad 4 records, Gonzaga is 3-2; Duke 4-2; Kentucky 3-3; Texas 3-3; Tennessee 4-4; and UConn 4-4. Illini are 8-3 excluding Quad 4.

Duke is the only Top 20 NET team with a Quad 3 loss (Miami at home).

Texas and Houston are the only two Top 20 NET teams with 0 Quad 1 wins.

I don't want anyone to peek behind this curtain too much since Illinois has only played one team in the Kenpom Top 25. But it is interesting that, IMO, there isn't a clear upper echelon in CBB this year. In terms of AdjEM, Illinois this year at #11 is actually closer to the #1 team than they were last year as the #4 team. (7.17 vs 7.42 pts away from #1). Not sure this holds water in terms of standard deviations from the mean, but I'll leave the statistics to Sacraig.

Yeah I don't see us jumping anyone who hasn't lost since we haven't beaten any ranked teams. I say #24

We have to play and beat a good team, which will automatically give us some recognition.

We've played one top 25 team, at home, and lost. Still battling the early losses to Cincy(by 20) and Marquette (less Kofi).

For the average voter who doesn't actually watch games, guessing doesn't see much outside of what's nationally televised.

Would not be surprised to see us passed by Miami and Oklahoma and not too many teams falling out.

We shall see!

Voters are dumb and don't do research(not all)
Not sure about "dumb", but only are aware of the games they see. They aren't closely following 40 teams. We haven't been on the national radar and have yet to beat anyone or substance. Can't really fault someone for not paying attention to Illinois vs a myriad of unranked opponents vs teams with marquee wins. We are all locked in and in tune with Illinois. If you asked me about Colorado State...wouldn't have a clue.

We're in at #25. Snuck in just behind ADVERTISEMENT and Alabama.

Alabama now has 4 losses. All 4 of those losses are to unranked teams. Their last loss was to #148 (in KenPom) Missouri, who we blasted by 25 points a few weeks ago.

Laughable to put us behind them.

But the most important thing is that we are now ranked. That gets us into the conversation. Win our next 3 (which includes Michigan if that game happens) and we’ll move way up.
