Illinois 81, Nebraska 71 Postgame

Trent on the season is 40% from the field and 39% in his career........so 4/10 is right on normal for him.

He only missed two fts in the game and one was in the second half so he wasnt 1/3 in the first.
The numbers don't tell the entire story. In the first half He was forcing things often very early in the shot clock without Kofi touching the ball. Kofi only had 7 shots in the first half and touched in much less too. Our PG needs to focus on getting Kofi the ball and spreading the floor or him working one on one. In the second half Kofi had 11 shots, passed out for open shots, and open lanes for multiple lay ups. The numbers don't tell the whole story.

I came to the US in 2019 fall, and in 2021 fall I began to watch football games and The Wire. Both made me feel more related to the US culture, and cannot helping watching them now.
I guess you haven't known people who watch the 1st football game and The Wire for the 1st time in the 2020s in his/her 20s lol.
Welcome. When is the best time to plant a tree begin watching Illini basketball?

When is the second-best time? Today.

Just looked at ESPN for scores of top 25. List all the other games except Illinois win. Get to top 25 for recognition then ESPN doesn’t list us.
It's there now but all four of the highlight clips are Nebraska, that is, showing good Nebraska plays as if they dominated Illinois. Evidently ESPN thinks Nebraska won the game.

When you look at the complete body of work including coming to a program that was struggling I think Trent‘s Jersey belongs in the rafters once he is done. He does whatever the team needs including great defense every night
If you make that argument, I'd have to counter with Sergio McClain. He came to the Illini when no one else wanted to, and guys followed him. His freshman year saw a Big Ten championship, and his sophomore year, he led a basement squad to the Big Ten Championship game. HIs last two years speak for themselves. Like Trent, he wasn't the best player on the court, but he was the heart and soul of his teams. And no one was better at setting a screen, flopping, and getting the call!

Don't want to get slapped with the Debbie Downer gif, but after last night, we are now 1-4 ATS when facing teams in the top 50 of AdjT. The lone "win" came against Iowa.

Fortunately, we only have one more game this year against such teams, Iowa at home. Something to think about though as we get into tourney time.

I hope the program finds a spot for Trent sometime in the future. He has worked hard and done things the right way from day one. Class act all the way. CASH!!! Will his jersey hang from the rafters someday?
It should be up there.. I know Luther had a national championship game to his resume but there is no way he was a better and more valuable player than Trent has been.

Gotta remember...when Belo returns, a shooter sits. Belo has got to be a plus...and that won't be as a shooter.
What he will bring is driving and dishing to the open shooter. He will replace DW in the lineup. Last night DW was the puny kid who got his lunch money stolen. He was abused. I am glad that we have this depth as that is what won us the game. AC will bring speed and even better passing to the game as he has been watching for a while. He can learn a lot from the bench

Abused is a strong word. But DaMonte definitely struggled to contain McGowens. He is a Mathurin type player, 6’7, bouncy and can score at all 3 levels. DaMonte has the length and strength but lacks the lateral quickness and bounce to really shut those kinds of players down.

Not a huge knock on him as both of those guys will be in the NBA sooner rather than later, but those types of players are our kryptonite this year. I think that actually may be where we miss Hutch the most this year. He seems to have the length and athleticism to keep up with those types and if nothing else would have been a fresh pair of legs to throw on them for 5-10 minutes. I was hoping RJ might be up to the job at some point this year but he’s apparently not ready.

With the current frosh and incoming class, BU does seem to be working to address the lack of length in the back court. If RJ can figure it out a combo of him, Coleman, and Ty Rogers could be a nightmare defensively with their length and athleticism.

There is a difference as Sergio was a verbal leader and the everyday guy and the glue on that team but Trent will end up in the top 5 overall scoring even though its a extra season but still, Trent is a special player and one that will have his name in the rafters one day.

HONORED JERSEYS

The University of Illinois has honored its most decorated basketball players in school history by hanging a banner with their name and number from the rafters of State Farm Center. A total of 34 men’s players have earned a spot on this distinguished list.

Players selected to have their jerseys hung must have achieved any of the following criteria:
1) National Player of the Year
2) Enshrined in the National Basketball Hall of Fame
3) U.S. Olympian
4) Big Ten Player of the Year
5) Consensus First- or Second-Team All-American
6) Illinois All-Century Team Member
7) Individual whose pioneering efforts made a significant impact on Illinois and international basketball

DW can guard guys his own level but he has a hard time guarding players like McGowens but anyone would. Monte does the little things but being a shut down guy he is not

Is that the official qualifications or are they just recommendations?

Man, on some real ****:

That 3 minute or so stretch after Kofi caught foul number 4 was like a pure, golden light lit, angels with wings unfurled rockin lingerie and singing from the heavens type burst of redemption. That few minutes of ball filled me with the kind of joy that reminds human beings that, yes, even the worst varieties of misery can in fact be overcome and cleansed away by unexpected moments of miraculous beauty.

Up until that point, this game was a steady diet of frustration, indignation, and emotional constipation. Bro, I was damn near on my knees appealing to all the basketball gods for us to finally play like a Big Ten title contender. And when Kofi got tagged with 他第四次犯规, and then Nebraska tied the game with the 2 subsequent free throws, I was already mentally preparing for the discomfort that I would feel across the next several days every time I thought about the fact that we let the Cornhuskers put doo doo stains on our once virgin pure, undefeated BT record. (This type of emotional defense mechanism is a direct consequence of the trauma inflicted onto me by Illini basketball across the Bruce Weber-John Groce eras).

But then, in defiance of all expectation, Omar I-Came-To-Bring-The-Payne Hardcore-From-the-Brain, took all of Illini Nation inside his astral plane.

Yo, I felt what Andy Dufresne did in that moment he emerged from the caca tunnel, finally liberated from the oppression and suffering of Shawshank. Because that first 90+% of the game was a straight prison sentence. But then, watching the Fighting Illini perform after Kofi took to the bench felt *exactly* like this...

REDEMPTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't know Theo Von was an Illini fan.
