He's no 3. He cant shoot outside of 15 feet or so. He could be a 4, but even most 4s are supposed to shoot outside sometimes. I'm a little shocked he hasn't developed an outside shot. Seems like it would be pertinent to him making to the next level.
According to the "expert coaches" posting on Hoosier sites, they say that he has an outside shot in practice but just won't go to it in the game. Hmm

Indiana just seemed exhausted halfway thru the second half. I don't know whether it takes more out of the opposing team by guarding us, or the way we guard them. The Illini are in incredible shape, they still looked pretty fresh, even tho the starters played a lot of minutes. This team seems to have that "it", a kind of swagger that's not overt, but very confident. The Flyin Illini had it, the DWill team had it. Nothing seems to faze them.
IU plays such a tough D, it has to take a ton of energy. We're just better. It remains to be seen if this IL team can be put in the same conversation with those past two teams. That's a very tall order. But this coach has them believing, and they are coming together.

Calillini

Now appearing in Tampa
Trent's 23 points today lifts him to 8th all time in scoring for Illinois, currently 18 points behind McCamey for 7th.

I knows it’s not apples to apples because of this fifth year, but how far up the list can Trent reasonably get. Do BTT and NCAA tournament games count?

Every game counts yes. Trent is averaging 12.8 per game. If he maintains that over the remaining 8 regular season games, that puts him at 1802 going into the BTT. If they win that, then win the NCAA, that would be an additional 9 games, which at career averages would put him at 1917.

So I would say top 5 is definitely feasible, and top 3 is reachable if he maintains production and Illinois goes on a postseason run.

Deon Thomas's record is out of reach, though, barring a 6th year or, like, 3 50 point heater games.

Now that today's 5 game spread is in the books, here are updated EM standings:

Illinois has improved to be the top defensive team in the conference, passing IU. They're within .002 of their final season defensive efficiency of last season (and .005 shy of their offensive efficiency end of last season), so they're effectively playing about as well as they did last season against the conference.

Purdue clears some room between themselves and the rest of the conference, a clear 2nd overall now.

MSU took a nosedive today, but overall body of work has them about even with OSU, IU, and Michigan.

Michigan's results aren't good enough right now to make the tournament, but their efficiency is good enough to be a tournament worthy team right now. Still dangerous, but they need to string some wins together to make their results profile look decent.

Wisconsin continues to overperform their metrics by winning close games and losing blowouts, a recipe for a potentially high seed in March that is vulnerable to a good under-seeded team. If they land a 4-5 seed, look there for a potential upset.

Iowa hasn't played in a week since their game Thursday was snowed out, but they're back in action tomorrow basically treading water in conference, projecting as an 8-9 seed in many brackets right now.

Northwestern made Nebraska looked bad...well, worse than usual. Still nowhere near a bid, but their overall numbers were helped quite a bit with the performance today, and Illinois' road win there looks better as a result.

Maryland and PSU continue to play spoiler, but neither could manage wins this week.

Minnesota is still not good.

Nebraska, what can you say. Just when they start looking competitive, they lose at home to Northwestern by 30. At least they aren't Oregon State.

Yes. The tournaments count. If he keeps his average he should easily get to 3rd. Passing Garris for 2nd would be very hard. Even if we made it to the finals of both the BTT and NCAA and played the maximum number of games, he wouldn't make it with his current average.

Kofi should easily pass Ayo with the most points by any 3 year player, and he will likely end the year in 11th place all time.

...looks like you beat me to it Piotyr!

I get it, a nice win but everyone needs to take a deep breath here and keep things in perspective. Do you realize Coach K is coaching his last game against UNC at Chappel Hill tonight????

Another fun stat that only matters to me: with today's win at Indiana, Illinois has 10 conference wins against 10 different conference opponents, and still has a shot to beat every other team in conference this season, which they haven't done since 2005 (last season, they never beat Maryland nor MSU, and didn't beat Rutgers in the regular season).

The 3 teams they have yet to defeat? Purdue, Ohio State and Penn State.

So, they know what they have to do on Tuesday.

Difference in the last 12 minutes was we started making shots. Once Grandison hit those two threes consecutively, things really started to open up and we kept hitting shots we were missing earlier. Indiana didn’t know whether to help off of shooters or let a Kofi go to work. Sometimes it’s just a make or miss game.

Huge second half from Grandison after a bad first half. His box out on TJD on the play before Trent made his three to really blow things open was huge.

Refs also cooled their jets which helped.

Nothing better than Road Kill involving one of our most hated rivals! I also enjoyed reading a few pages of their comments. While the Illini faithful can get a bit contentious with one another, IU's fans are in a tailspin and they are talking about the bubble. :shield:

No it’s not. Tons of bitchy Karen’s. Over emotional grown children. Cockburn is just better and so is Illinois. You think you don’t see other players not get called for travel and elbows? I’ll agree with us being spoilers. We are exactly where we were picked pre season. 5-7. We are who we are. Woodson threw everything he could at them. They are just better.
