Re: Boswell, pre NIL it felt like we had a lot of recruitments where we were seemingly in the drivers seat, only for another school to come in with a Godfather offer at the 11th hour. Now that most of the $$ is seemingly above board, will be interesting to see if that makes any difference.

Champaign/Central Illinois is a smaller market than Tucson, but presumably U of AZ splits the market with pro teams/AZ State where it does feel like U of I Basketball is the biggest deal in central IL. Couple that with a hometown kid would hope we could be competitive on that front but we will see.

TFWIW but my “insider” DMd me this morning, said he personally chatted with Kylan this weekend, and that he told him that IL is in the driver’s seat. True? Time will tell. Encouraging? Absolutely
While that is great AZ is looming on the horizon. Can never feel comfortable when there are other visits scheduled.

Tucson is a much bigger market, and Wildcats Basketball is far and away the #1 sports follow in that town. Imagine a less crazy Lexington or Knoxville, in the desert.

I'm sure there will be in home visits after the official visits, but we've seen too many times where you feel great after your visit and lose a guy after subsequent visits. I'm not ready to get excited quite yet.

Jerry Leggett was my sophomore biology teacher at Glenbard East. Is he still around?
Unfortunately, he passed away over 20 years ago after retiring from Moline. To keep this on topic, the Longcor kid from Quincy will be a high D1 player. He is crafty, smooth, and can shoot. I'd imagine he'll be a top 100 recruit before it's all said and done, and I wouldn't put top 50 past him. He's legit.

And the 6'5 freshman, Keshaun Thomas, is big and strong. Reminds me a bit of Belleville West's Keith Randolph, who, of course, is now on the Illini football team.

These two remind me of a team that makes it to state and everyone is geared up to see he big-time recruit (Longcor), and he lives up to the hype, but then people are like, "Who the hell was THAT guy?", referring to Thomas. Quincy also plays a third frosh, Dominique Clay. I'm not a recruiting guru, so outside of Longcor, I don't know about their projectability to college, but they will be a force the next 2-3 years in Illinois. And I do feel confident in saying Longcor will be a top-flight recruit.

The programs generate virtually the same revenue. I'd imagine he would control a higher share of our revenue than he would at AZ, as many non-basketball fans would probably buy his merch. The difference in NIL, in this situation, is probably irrelevant to a player of his caliber. He should mainly be concerned with development.

Pretty sure Leggett passed away. Almost back to back with Bruce and his brother. Mike Payne was also on that team. Brother thru a pass full court that Bruce almost tipped in. Almost back to back state champs

How much revenue the two schools generate is pretty irrelevant for the NIL discussion. I suppose it gives some indication of donor support that might translate to NIL deals.

I'm in CU. The best I can tell, the only company paying our players for their name in a legitimate "paying this guy will help our bottom line" sort of way is OSF paying Kofi and DWM.

The million dollar question for the Illini and other schools is how many alums and their companies are willing to overpay for endorsements and other NIL services.

btw, I doubt the NIL is "rrelevant". It might not be the most important factor, but I'd be shocked if it wasn't a factor.

transfer candidate? Antigua had him bagged until DePaul pulled a last minute swoop.

He's struggled some with his shot, but he's stroking it lately.
Interesting suggestion. Would the forces that funneled him to DePaul instead of going to Illinois be able prevent him from transferring to Illinois? IIRC, it seemed to be a weird situation when he committed to DePaul over us and there was some speculation that it was $hady.

feels like we already have a player like him in Epps next year.
You can never have too many scorers and they play different positions. Not convinced he’s be looking to leave a school like DePaul where he can be the go-to guy.

I remember playing intramural basketball with Mr. Leggett supervising. He would send kids to a penalty box for rough play. He was my favorite teacher in high school, and then he married a girl two classes ahead of me! He wasn't "good" enough to coach BB at our school, but won a state championship or two with Quincy. I think he had Bruce Douglas on one of his teams.

I'll worry about this when/if he's in the portal...also closer to RJ or Rodgers than Epps.

He lives in Phoenix, which is hotter than Tucson.
