P.S. Credit to our opponent ... I love Jersey Mike's subs, great food for a great price.
So, if they are Jersey Mike’s, does that make us Jimmy John’s?

I don’t know why but I’m honestly terrified for tonight. I think this will be a very very tough game. Rutgers is in a Cinderella comeback movie right now, and we’re just another team in their “winning streak montage”.

The headlines are too perfect: 4 ranked wins in a row! Down goes Illinois!

Sorry this is so negative but I think I’m bracing myself so I’m not let down. It’s all internal coping! 😵‍💫

I know this sounds odd - but I almost don't care if we win tonight

I care about us playing well, seeing Curbelo at 100% and starting to solidify what the rotation is going to look like going forward, RJ's role etc. I still don't feel like we've seen the team running on all cylinders and that is much more important to me than a win

Rutgers has been really hot and may shoot lights out and win, but if we're playing well and clicking with all of our pieces in place (including the second half) and happen to lose a close game, I'll still be feeling good about our chances down the stretch
You care. You're putting your cup in place just in case we don't.

I don't believe anyone on our bench will understate the challenge this evening, which is why I don't find myself ever worrying about this team. Yes, they may be shorthanded and struggle, as they did at Maryland. They may go cold, as they did at Purdue. But whether at home or on the road I have confidence that they can win every game, even if they'll likely lose one here and there. In contrast to several seasons ago, when I lacked confidence that they could close the deal down the stretch, now I have complete confidence that they can, and usually will.

Learn to stop worrying and love the bomb, my friend!

I’m all for giving opponents their due respect, but come on, people!

Can you imagine if certain posters were assistant coaches on the staff?

“Hey, Da’Monte, I’m really terrified of these guys. Aren’t you?”

“Kofi, it’s OK if we lose this one, don’t ya think?”

“Alfonso, how can you possibly guard these monsters?”

“Andre, don’t you know Rutgers beats everyone at the RAC?”

“Trent, let’s just go for a ‘good loss,’ and move on.”

“Coleman, let me give a detailed breakdown of how bad you are.”

“Brad, the only chance we have in the tourney is to reboot our whole offense - and defensive scheme, too - right now!”

Nothing personal, there are posters here who would be fun to watch a game with, but others… no, thanks. Now, GO ILLINI!!!

Are you kidding me? I'm just worried about what I'm going to tell Pruman if we only win by 19, seeing how I bet his Poppy Farm against the odds.

As fans, we have the luxury to choose where we sit on the scale of pessimist to optimist. Our outlook on a game isn't going to affect its outcome.

From a practical perspective, it would be silly to ignore Rutgers' recent performance. Based on the season as a whole, Torvik's model predicts Illinois -5.2. Based on the last three games, it predicts Rutgers -5.1. There's a valid reason to suggest this game is more difficult that it might appear.

That said, from the same practical perspective, Rutgers is extremely shallow. They basically have one bench player that contributes in any meaningful way, while we have several. They've also been playing at a very slow tempo. If we can dictate a higher-tempo game (potentially causing fatigue and fouls to become issues), we have a major depth advantage.

Looking forward to this game, and this is another one that I think will be tough for us to pull out. That said, the past couple years have proven me wrong many times.

All I ever wanted was meaningful games in late February and now I have them. Ima love every minute of this game, win or lose. But win, please.

Nope..... Kofi goes for 25 pts and 14 boards
CoHawk keeps Harpo Jr in check again
Trent and the guards warm back up at 3 pt range
Illini - 75
(Rudy) Ruettiger's - 64

Rutgers has reallyyyy shortened the rotation during this hot streak and all 5 starters are playing 30+ minutes.

As for the bench...

Mag 6'7 - bouncy athletic strong wing. A bit raw. Decent shot. Role player

Miller 6'1 - backup freshman PG. Plays tough pressure man D. Annoying as it gets for other PG. No outside shot and limited offensive game

Reiber 6'10 - skilled backup 5. High IQ. Doesn't have the strength for Kofi. Can step out and shoot the 3

Hyatt 6'6 - strong wing / 4. Likes to shoot. Turns the ball over. Gets lost on D. Lots of physical tools. Can create his own shot.

Palmquist, Agee, and Jones are pretty much out of the rotation.

Jones was a 4 star recruit and played close to 30 minutes first game. Agee played 18. Both are out of the rotation currently.
