Decided to start this thread as I thought it would be a nice catch-all for the stuff going on in the different conference tournaments this week and next. I'll understand if Dan ends up moving it around to another spot on here. Can still have the daily games thread. Just thought it would be good to have this as a place to congregate everything else.

So the Northeast Conference had its opening round game tonight with 9 seed Central Connecticut State defeating 8 seed Fairleigh Dickinson 67-66. The Blue Devils will travel to 1 seed Bryant on Wednesday night. The ASUN (1 seeds Jacksonville State and Liberty), Horizon League (1 seed Cleveland State), and Patriot League (1 seed Colgate) tournaments start tomorrow night. Other conference tournaments that start this week include the Ohio Valley Conference, Big South Conference, Missouri Valley Conference, Sun Belt Conference, Southern Conference and West Coast Conference.

WCC bracket is a farce, if you haven't seen it, the top 2 teams gets automatic byes to the semi's.

Love this. It's my favorite week of the year. It's hard to keep up with all of the championship game day/times, then when Wednesday, Thursday/Friday come, when the big boys start...it's beautiful chaos.

OVC does it the same way and has for years. Mainly it's been used as a way to protect Murray State and Belmont from being upset in earlier rounds, which is going to be moot after this season since both are leaving for the Missouri Valley.

They're both moving over? Taking a step up in weight class. Good decision for Murray State. They've gone multiple years where they basically ran the table in conference, but if they lost in the conference tournament, they were in bubble mode. That's becoming a pretty formidable mid major.

Not sure why you think it is a farce. Makes sense to me to reward success in regular season and protect your top teams a bit. I believe payouts to conferences for NCAA tourney is based on number of teams in and then wins in the tourney. Why wouldn’t you want your best team(s) in to maximize payout. Especially important for one bid leagues to get their best team in with the hopes of winning a game or possibly more.

Yes, and with 10 teams. Even when The Big Ten started having a tournament in 1998, we had 11 teams, and even the top seeds had to and still have to play in the quarterfinals.

It's been that way for about 10 years, along with several other conferences. They designed it that way to reward the regular season more.

The B1G does similar as well.
True, but not to the semis.

Yep. They're both leaving and Austin Peay is also leaving, heading to the ASUN. Been lots of turnover in the OVC the last couple years. Eastern Kentucky and Jacksonville State left for the ASUN after last school year. OVC is adding Little Rock (formerly Arkansas-Little Rock) and Southern Indiana (who will be transitioning from D-II to D-I) as non-football playing members as well as Lindenwood University (D-II school in St. Charles, MO who will also be transitioning to D-I) who does play football.

Only one upset by seed in tonight's Horizon League tournament. 10 seed Robert Morris won at 7 seed Youngstown State 77-73. Robert Morris will play at 1 seed Cleveland State Thursday night. 8 seed UIC won at 9 seed Milwaukee tonight 80-69 as Flames waived right to host tournament games for remainder of 2022 winter and spring events in Horizon League. UIC travels to 2 seed Purdue Fort Wayne Thursday night.

In the Patriot League, both lower seeds won. 9 seed Bucknell won at 8 seed Lafayette 82-81. Bucknell will travel to 1 seed Colgate on Thursday night. 10 seed American upset Holy Cross 69-63. American travels to 2 seed Navy on Thursday night.
