So do you feel that Underwood has another PG that he is ready to pull the trigger on or is he content to see how Ames progresses and make that the only offer for a '23 PG?
Maybe Boswell was his only "Take" as of right now? There are always a few guys who pop over the summer. Maybe he's just waiting to see what/who develops.

It's been awhile since we did not have to worry about the recruits for the next season at this time of year. We've had our class locked up for so long, it seems like we should be panicking, but we have 18 months to figure out the 23' class. Relax. We are in good hands.

Weber would really scramble after he missed on his #1 targets. He was super focused on Illinois kids and when Self signed Julian Wright and Sherron Collins he did not have backups. I think he also overestimated his chances for signing 4 and 5 star recruits.

Brad seems focused on signing kids that play his style of ball and does not worry about number of stars. He casts a huge net and appears always to have a backup plan on backup plan.

His first couple of years he took a lot flyers as he did not have better options. Its appears that he and his staff have made it to the next level and even with the turnover in assistant coaches we are getting good recruits. Goode, Melendez and Pods all appear to have the skills and athleticsm to be B10 starters. Plummer was a home run transfer. Payne has some issues but bigs take longer to develop. Next years class looks very promising as well - Dainja, Rogers, Harris and Epps.

Not sure what happened with Fears but after watching him on TV not sure he was a no brainer. He didn't take any outside shots and was not the #1 PG on his team. Looked like nice player but I would prefer somebody who was the #1 option on his HS team.

It seems like now we are almost exclusively looking at top 100 players, regardless of whether or not Brad cares about stars.

Love to get Ames and Brown to join Morez. More Illinois kids the better.

2005 Brown, Augustine, Powell and Head were all Illinois kids
1989 Gill, Bardo, Anderson Hamilton and Battle were all Illinois kids.

The glory days!
The entire 1988-89 roster was from Illinois. Different times, indeed.

And the only non-Illinois kid, Rodney Jones, did not qualify and sat out the 88-89 season. So it really was all Illinois kids that saw the court that year; was unusual then, sounds even crazier now!

It was nice at the time, but why care where they are from? Baylor had 5 players from texas last year. No starters I think. Kansas, Az., Duke, Gonzaga get them where ever. Kansas, Az., Washington, Kentucky do not produce a lot of high level talent, but they get high level talent. Sure would have been nice to have Liddell, and Christie now, but the program has had that problem for decades. I prefer the current method, where ever you can get them.

I think the idea is it would be nice to have in state top talent want to stay home.

I would say that holds true. If the guys coming out of the state if Illinois want to stay, you’ll 1) have more options and 2) have some pretty talented options.

The best schools pick from wherever, but they usually land the top guy in their state if he’s a too national player as well. Does that means that’s ALL they get? No. But those elite programs, they choose who to take, especially from their own state.

Ames plays tonight at Thornwood in the Sectional semi finals, when Kenwood takes on Bloom. If they win, they would play St. Rita (Morez and JB)on Friday night. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone from staff there on Friday.
Ames had to be helped off the court last night by teammates. It appears that he hurt his lower right leg. I had to leave early during the game, so I am not sure if he returned for the game. If indeed Kenwood did win last night and St Rita wins tonight, I will be there on Friday night.

I believe he missed time earlier this year because of his ankle. Maybe it hasn't really healed.

On a more serious note. Do you know if the one time transfer without sitting is a permanent option moving forward? Or will it go back to the old ways?
It’ll stay as far as I know. It’ll be interesting to see what the ncaa does for kids transferring for valid reasons(family, closer to home, etc.) especially if they have already transferred once.

Does Shelly Clark from juco count in the early 90s? He was a nice inside complement to Deon Thomas in the early to mid 90s.
Clark was one of my favorites as a little kid. At the time, he was one of the biggest guys I’d ever met. My memory tells me that he had missed a start due to a ticket? I was young, am I miss remembering?
