They lost to Auburn, at Auburn, by 13. They have one other loss total, on a neutral court, to a team worse than it. They have five wins between 2-5 points, one of which was at Memphis, who is a bubble team.

The polls are irrelevant to Murray State's strength. They're probably a 7-8 seed right now, and safely in the tournament.

I'd wager you didn't see a single game they played, so I'm not sure what you mean by "passing the eye test". That usually means "I refuse to accept actual facts, so I'm going to ignore them and make up my own reasons to discount them"
I'll take that wager and your beach house. You are welcome to your differing opinions. Neither of us knows what the committee will do. I will ask that when you disagree, that you maintain respect vs. accusing others of lying. Thank you.

Btw. I count 7 wins of 5 pts or less. Memphis, TN, MoreheadSt x2, UTMartin, SEMO, SIUE, and MTSU was 6.

Got the chance to see the MVC Semis today with my son, twin brother and niece. A great experience. Loyola/Northern Iowa was never really close. Lots of Panther fans there, they represented well, but were silent in the second half. All those Gryffindor scarves and a quick shot of Sister Jean.

Missouri State/Drake was a FANTASTIC game to watch, both the in the schemes used and the athletes playing. Went down to the final second.

Just an all-around great afternoon/evening of basketball and hanging out with my family. I've got tickets to see the Pac 12 Quarterfinal afternoon session in Vegas next Wednesday. Love this time of year.

Bellarmine upset Liberty in the ASUN semis today, interesting small school that dominated D3 off it’s strangely pass-dominant lob style offense. Only their 2nd season in D1 I believe. Would be an interesting team to watch if they can get the bid on Tuesday. Could surprise a sleeping high seed with their unique play style.

Many of the conferences that start tournaments this week have off days built into the tournament schedules, either by staggering rounds over two days or just giving off days after rounds (Every conference that has started play prior to today has off days, actually). West Coast has an off day between the quarterfinals and semifinals.

The biggest issue with having off days during second-week tournaments is that most of the conferences are already playing 5 straight days going into the NCAA selection, and giving byes to teams in an effort to reward regular season performance by letting them play tired teams the day after they play, and giving off days would offset that.
Argument against off-days:
Players - studies/academics (missed classes)
Fans - cost of hotels/travel
University Administration - academic standards; cost of team travel

Actually Bellarmine wouldn't get it since they're still in their D-I transition period which leads to this interesting scenario in the ASUN tournament final on Tuesday night:

Longwood wins the Big South Conference tournament championship, defeating Winthrop 79-58. It is the Lancers' first NCAA tournament appearance in school history, having only been D-I since 2004.

Louisiana keeps their Cinderella run in the Sun Belt Conference tournament alive, defeating 4 seed Troy 66-57. They'll face the 3 seed Georgia State, who upset the 2 seed Appalachian State 71-66, for the tournament championship tomorrow night.

Only other upset by seed today was the 5 seed South Dakota defeating the 4 seed Kansas City 74-61 in the Summit League tournament.

Loyola Chicago wins the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship over Drake 64-58. It is the Ramblers' 8th tournament appearance and their 2nd in a row. It is also the Ramblers' final tournament appearance in the Missouri Valley Conference as they are heading to the Atlantic 10 next season.
Didn't realize they have already been in the MVC for going on 9 years, crazy.

Yah with them leaving for the A10 opened up more schools moving. The MVC will be adding Belmont, Murray State & University of Illinois-Chicago next year to have 12 schools. Not sure about UIC or Belmont but Murray State is also going through the process of possibly joining the MVFC.

This offseason is particularly crazy for conference realignment, except that basically none of it is happening in the 6 major conferences (Texas and Oklahoma are going to the SEC, but in 2025, and the Big 12 is adding Houston, UCF BYU, and Cincinnati in 2024)

To replace Houston/UCF/Cincinnati, the American invited half the MWC, but they all declined. Instead they'll be adding 6 CUSA teams: Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, UAB, North Texas, Rice and Texas-San Antonio, giving them 14 members.

Losing 6 teams scared the rest of CUSA, so they started scattering. Southern Miss, Old Dominion and Marshall are going to the Sun Belt. Sun Belt also added James Madison from the CAA to even out the teams. The Sun Belt also booted its two non-football members, Arkansas-Little Rock and Texas-Arlington, so Little Rock is going to the Ohio Valley conference and UT Arlington is going to the WAC.

Since this left 5 members to CUSA for next year, they scrambled to add teams to maintain the conference minimum (6 for basketball, 8 for football) and are adding Liberty and Jacksonville State from the ASUN and New Mexico State and Sam Houston State from the WAC (Sam Houston State just joined the WAC this year)

The WAC, then, having lost 2 teams (and adding UT Arlington from the Sun Belt), added Incarnate Word from the Southland, but Chicago State announced they were leaving the conference this season. Southern Utah from the Big Sky will also be joining in 2022, putting the WAC at 13 total members next year.

The ASUN conference so far has replaced Liberty and Jacksonville State (who both just joined the ASUN this season) with Austin Peay out of the OVC, but they're still looking (in D-2, allegedly) for more schools so they can have the minimum required football schools. Until then, they'll play a joint football conference schedule with the WAC.

The OVC is losing Austin Peay, Belmont and Murray State, leaving them with too few schools for football. They are replacing them with Little Rock (shown earlier), Lindenwood and Southern Indiana, two schools coming from D-2.

The CAA, which lost James Madison, is adding Monmouth from the MAAC, Hampton and North Carolina A&T from the Big South, and Stony Brook from the America East.

The Big South and Big Sky will each be left with 10 teams.

The America East conference is losing Stony Brook and Hartford (transitioning to D-3), leaving them with 8 members.

The Atlantic 10 is adding Loyola, which will give them 15 members next season.

The MVC is losing Loyola IL but gaining Illinois Chicago, Belmont and Murray State, putting them at 11 members.

Horizon League is losing UIC, leaving them with 11 members

MAAC is losing Monmouth, leaving them with 10 members.

WCC is losing BYU, leaving them with 9 members.

Thanks for the summary, but what's happening to the D2 conferences where schools are moving up?

I'm sort of embarrassed to admit that I completely forgot that Chicago State was in the WAC. I remember when that was a pretty decent conference in football and basketball.

fixed hehe UIC actually brought MVC up to 12 teams for next year.

Damn I didn't realize their was that much movement in the Mid-Major conferences. I saw the Murray State to MVC and looked into it more wondering if SIU-E was doing any moving. Then saw that Belmont was also moving to the MVC. I am kind of surprised some of those conferences didn't just merge.

Now that all conferences below the Power Five have been completely blown to smithereens, they should implement regionalized promotion and relegation ladders for the remainder of D1 basketball. It would be awesome.

We actually watched this today in our basketball period because we are switching to a 5 out ball movement offense, but it’s crazy how efficient Bellarmine has been.

Gonzaga putting on a clinic against San Francisco (KenPom 21, NET 24), up 20-5 at the under 12.

That was a HELL of a finish. These are the best parts of Championship Week.

And that shot came after Furman had made a 3 to tie it late in regulation to force OT.

For the Chattanooga, as they're referred to now, Mocs, it is their 12th tournament appearance, their first since 2016.

Gotta feel bad for Furman though as they haven't made the NCAA Tournament since 1980.

After starting off hot, Gonzaga just coasting and playing lackadaisically, leading 77-64 with 4 minutes left, but USF playing well lately.
