Let us begin the Illini revenge tour:

Round 1: Chattanooga (for 1997)
Round 2: Kelvin Sampson
Round 3: Arizona (for...any of the 8 times they beat Illinois since 2000)
Round 4: Loyola (for last year)
Round 5: Kansas (Self-inficted) or Auburn (a Pearl of a program)
Round 6: Purdue (for twice this year) or North Carolina (for 2005)
We also would have accepted Kentucy (for 1984) in the championship game.

Perspective check:

The last time we played Chattanooga was in those dreadful Springfield games. The result was… regrettable. Check out the starting lineup. That team would finish last in the B1G this year. So while we bemoan a 4 seed in Pittsburgh, perhaps we should take a moment and appreciate the trajectory underwood has us on.
To be fair, that team in 14-15 actually had 2 future nba players on it 👀

One of the funniest things I've heard from the talking heads is that Chattanoga's head coach, who used to be an assistant at Wisconsin, is probably on the phone right now asking Greg Gard about how to defend Kofi. Had to laugh, I mean what defensive secrets are they going to get after Wisky gave up 37 points to Kofi in their only meeting this year, and 25 & 28 last year.

The more I contemplate our bracket, the better I feel. If I’m being honest, there are two things that scare me and they’re more emotional than logical: that we’ll repeat last year’s flop (even though it’s a completely new season) and that we don’t seem to put teams away lately (but we should probably expect a close game in the Tournament no matter what!).

Houston is the 5 I’d most want. I mean, would anyone seriously rather play a 5 like Iowa right now?!

I guess you could say “hope springs eternal”, or
“past performance is not indicative of future results”, whatever makes them feel good, but I wouldn’t want to be in the Moc’s skins for this one.

Knowing how to stop Kofi and being able to actually do it are 2 different things.

I can imagine the phone call now - “hey Greg, so I know you lost to them, but how WOULD you play them if you had to play them a second time around?”

Now I certainly believe coaches use any option they have to get more scouting intel, but not sure asking Greg Gard how to stop Kofi is the approach being used, especially because he is probably busy working on his own game prep and not trying to relive facing Kofi.

IDK how everyone else is feeling, but I am focusing on Chattanooga and Chattanooga only. Reason being, we can't control who we would play next, we can only focus on the opponent in front of us. FWIW, it really seems like the team is locked into this mentality. No. Overlooked. Games.
Right, one game at a time. No point in looking past the one in front of you.

Well, if you look at record, he's right. If you toss out the games Curbelo played early on while dealing with the concussion (where we went 2-2), we were 7-6 with Curbelo and 13-1 without. Of course, that's completely ignoring opponent strength. The average opponent KenPom rank for the 13-1 was 119, while the average for the 7-6 was 45.
That 7-6 record is even more skewed than it appears at face value. In games Curbelo played 20+ minutes, we are 2-3. In 5 of the 7 wins, he played 17 minutes or less.

Honestly, we need him to find a level of consistency that hasn't been present over the course of a single game, let alone series of games. Curbelo is a special talent that completely changes the trajectory of the team if he plays to the expectations many had for him this year. Now is the time, he is going to get the minutes, he has to be extremely effective with them for us to surprise and make a deep run in the tourney.

Come on, Belo. The lights are shining, time to bust loose.

CHAMPAIGN,, Ill. — Illinois had an idea that Chattanooga would be its opening opponent in the NCAA Tournament.
The Illini had an inkling they would be a No. 4 seed, so they looked at particular matchups, including the Mocs.
That meant when coach Brad Underwood was asked about preparing for the matchup, he pulled out a folder filled with paper labeled “NCAA Tournament — Chattanooga” that he brought to the podium.
“We were down to three teams to prep for. Chattanooga was one of them,” Underwood said.
We don’t have that scouting report, but here are some things to know about the Southern Conference champions.

Thought at beginning of season that our best potential lineup was Belo, Trent, Jake, Hawk, and Kofi. Think we have finally arrived at that point. Particular matchups may change that but BU seems to let the opponent try to match up with his lineups. It’s true we have been very inconsistent but we have also had inconsistent availability of players. Will be surprised if we don’t get to sweet sixteen but anything after that either better or worse won’t surprise me.

I still believe some crazy Freshman PT is coming up to spark us.

Anyone watch all games online? How about syncing Brian's radio broadcast? I'm thinking of cutting the cord.

I read the article from the St. Louis Post Dispatch. The Mocs haven't played against a better team then the Illini. They haven't seen a Kofi this year. DMW or Trent will play Smith. The ILLINI will be ready for any team. The BT schedule alone makes us a tough out. You never take a team for granted, but They don't have any one to match up with Hawkins either. You would think that the press is making Smith to be Davis or Ivey. Go ILLINI!

I would probably take UConn and St. Mary's first. On your second point UI did beat Iowa twice.

I've always done it. The picture quality can degrade sometimes but if you've got good wifi it shouldn't change your experience too much
