Also, after watching Trent dribble at the top of the key and four other Illini just standing around waiting for something to happen most of the game, I think Weber's motion offense could have produced more points today. Maybe Chester should teach Brad the Keady/Weber motion offense?

The simplest stat to go by is +/- and Damonte is very rarely a + even in the games we win. In his 5th year his shooting was statistically his worst. He shot 30% from the floor, 50% on FTs and he only averaged 3.8 points in 29 minutes a game.

He’s fine against teams like penn state and Minnesota but the competition is elevated he is out of his league.

I thank him for coming to illinois and helping build the program. But that doesn’t mean I have to just blindly support him.
Unfortunately the +\- stat doesn’t tell the whole story. But to ease your mind you won’t have to worry about DMW playing anymore as he’s used up his eligibility

Heartbreaking to hear trent talk about the Twitter trolls. They all deserve better than the toxic posts. I hope that 99 percent of twitter posts are positive. I may have to sign up for social media to let them all know how much trent and the crew have meant to me and my family this year and over the past few years.

It’s a generational thing. Social media has taken on a way oversized importance to this generation and young ones. We know this stuff isn’t going away any time soon.

The answer is... honestly... the guys just have to stop reading this stuff. Have a friend or family member monitor the accounts you want for content and filtering but DON’T read this stuff yourself because those harmful voices will live in your head and bring you down for many or most people.

This doesn’t mean you ‘censor’ all ‘negative’ posts away from the player. If a less-than-positive post appears but it is done with a good intent and makes a good point, then let the player know about it. But just to dump on a player for any reason or use a player as an object to heap a fan’s frustration on is NOT the way to go. It does not serve the player or the program or anything useful.

There is no upside to reading negative or trolling posts. This does nothing to develop your game or make you a better player and a better person.

If social media is going to be part of a player’s life then the player must use it, not be used BY social media.

If just one social media post plants a seed of doubt in a player’s mind then it has done harm. But the player must be responsible for taking matters into their own hands and put controls on their social media activity.

It’s too bad that Trent let social media get so much into his head. He doesn’t need that. Nor does any player.

We don’t just eat anything that comes along and put that into our body. So it is with social media and negative press or negative thinking. You stick to the healthy stuff only and you’re way better off the way.

It's always easier for people to express complaints than offer compliments. There are countless people who may appreciate you but they don't take the time to express it. So it then looks like the negative people rule the floor and dominate the thinking when they don't.

Players: Use social media if you want. But don't let it use you.

Honestly, I am a little disappointed in Trent's snipe at the "Keyboarders" especially in light of the team's disappointing performance in the tournament. I don't think there is a fanbase anywhere that has supported a player any more vigorously than this fanbase has with respect to Trent. I am actually surprised at how generally fair and balanced Loyalty's postgame comments have been. Kudos to Trent and his teammates for their commitment to the Beloved. They have been great representatives of the University and conference. I usually like the "Us against the world" mentality but it seems that might have been more productive had it served as motivation against Houston. Conjecture on my part, admittedly. One thing for sure... I hate when it's over. On to football and let's see marked improvement there to ease this sting a bit. Go Illini!
You have the right to be wrong . . .
You have the right to remain silent. You have the right to a court appointed attorney. You have the right to sing the blues. You have the right to cable TV... that's very important. You have the right to sublet. You have the right to paint the walls... no loud colors.

Where do you find game by game plus minus stats? Have been looking but can’t find it anywhere.
Bleacher Report has them for every game. Just click on stats and it's on the far right of their stat sheet. -15 L, -7 W, -9 L, -2 W, +7 W, +2 W, -5 L, +3 W, -2 L, -10 W. These are DaMonte's last 10 games. He's even a negative in games we have won which just proves my point that the team was better when he wasn't on the floor.

You could just say thank you, and go on your way.

Social media has just expanded the network of the ignorant. Before, the ignorance was limited geographically to those within earshot. Now ignorance and stupidity are exposed on a global basis . . .

But what is that potential? It is not in the NBA next season so why not stay, collect NIL and a degree.
I think he can make 6 figures easily off the NIL if he wanted to. A degree is huge post playing career. I hope whoever advises him presents all the facts

Until Curbelo can fix this leg kick, he'll struggle with his shooting.

Not singling out this post specifically, but one thing I could use less of us folks thinking that rebounding and defense are just a matter of hustle or desire. They’re both skills just like shooting or dribbling are, and Houston happens to be one of the absolute most skilled teams in that regard that you’ll see.

We could’ve done better but the guys we had on the floor 1-4 for most of the game are not highly skilled rebounders. It’s a weakness that we could paper over against less talented teams early in the season by virtue of, well, Kofi. Just looking forward to seeing us get a bit longer and more athletic.
Well of course it’s a skill…and it’s something more innate in some players than others.
But it’s certainly a less refined one than shooting or dribbling…
(Also it’s a team skill and individual skill…which adds another layer.)
BUT the reality is there is always gonna be that blue collar…just want-it-more psychological aspect to it.
It’s just the way it is…and that’s not over romanticizing it at all…
AND to your point, like anything else.. it’s what is stressed MOST by the coaching staff that sticks…obviously done through repetition and drill work…something Sampson teams and Izzo(past teams) excel at.

Now having said that…Underwood does pretty well in that regard too.
BUT… Illinois is a good Rebounding team that for whatever reason got worse as time went on.

Many of us here, appreciate Robbie Hummel…
RH during the game at Purdue: “ Illinois is a very good rebounding team but they’re just not doing it” So if we had the skill previously and we’re suddenly not doing it now…what does that tell you? It’s more than likely an effort thing.

Houston in all likelihood WAS going to out rebound us…but you gotta go down fighting all the way or why even play the game?

In our guys defense they did fight much harder than in other outings.

Just now reading the guys twitter feeds, and have had a few hours to reflect. This team brought a lot of joy to all of us. For that, we are all thankful. As disappointed as the fan base is, the players and coaches are a lot more disappointed. They battled adversity, battled a pandemic, battled injuries, yet through it all brought me and my family joy about twice a week, win or lose. Thank you to the Seniors and Kofi. This team will always hold a special place in my heart. I sure hope Trent Frazier goes the way of Chester Frazier, and becomes an Illini employee for life. If Ernie Banks was Mr. Cub, then Trent should have the title of Mr. Illini.

First like to thank the players for representing the University with class while being the winniest BIG over the ladt 3 years.

Going forward to win in the tourny we will need multi-dimetional players with NBA type length. Thought Hutcherson could give us this but was not available. But see Melendez abd COHawk and see how effective they can be. Goode at 6-7 can play the 2 or 3 and he will be problematic in the future. PODZ, Goode and Melendez are high IQ players who aren't afraid of the moment. Adding Epps, Ty, and Sincere Harris nect year will form a solid young nucleaus.

I started at Illinois as a freshman in fall 2005 and I still haven’t seen Illinois play in the second weekend during that whole time.
No offense...but there are many of us that have been around much longer with the same complaint.

This was a good season. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. B1G Champs. I wanted a S16 berth, but so be it. Those gentlemen played thier hearts out for O&B. Feel bad for Trent and DMFW, and maybe (hopefully not) Kofi. They should be proud as hell.

Even if Kofi does not come back, I'm super stoked for next year. These frosh, and Curbelo have me excited. It's gonna be a long summer, even for guy that lives for motorcycle season.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I’m only seeing one game, and pretty much everyone was minus today. Will see if the app has more. Really curious if that trend lasted the entire season, or just this last stretch where Illinois did not play well at all.

Haven't been here since the game ended. Here is my hot take.

We had a lot of good players who were all one dimensional offensively. Kofi low post, back to the basket, dependent on entry pass. Plummer a shooter who needs space (he's not tall). Ditto Frazier. Ditto Grandison (his is mostly a set shot). Curbelo drives and can sometimes finish - but no jump shot (I am not sure we ever saw a 100% healthy Curbelo this year). Hawkins scores mostly on put backs, yet was not crashing boards in tournament (by design?). Williams, Payne and BBV unfortunately had no offensive game this year. Goode has some length but seems to be a catch and shoot guy.

Conclusion - we became easy to defend. Our last 5 games we averaged 61 points per game. We simply need more multi-dimensional scorers (hello Melendez). We also need more length - longer guards just shut us down.

Great season, especially considering all of the adversity and missed games. A regular season Big Ten title is sweet. To compete on he national stage, though, we will need more length and to be more diverse offensively.

It was fun. Thanks to the players - they gave their all. And they have a banner!

I need to say this also...my step son goes to Slippery Rock Univ in the sports management program. He volunteered to work the tourney games at Pittsburgh. He grew up as a Penn St fan, but told him he has to try and get a I-L-L..I-N-I chant going, and there was $100 for him I'd if I even heard Oskee-wow-wow from anywhere. He did what he could, considering he was under constraints.

At any rate, he got to check the Illini in on Friday, and was the mop dude today. He also made connections with other local U's, the Penguins (HE SHAGGED REBOUNDS FOR SIDNEY F'ING CROSBY!!!) and had a blast networking. I hope he land a job as GM of the Bears someday. God knows they need him!

Illini had plenty of issues today but slippery sweaty floor was not one. Kudos mop dude.

Please dude, people are more than allowed to critique how these men perform. I played college hockey in MN and was fine with people scrutinizing how I played. It comes with the territory
I agree, if the critique is coming from someone with knowledge and experience in the area being critiqued. However, your critique of a Div. 1 college player is like me as a rec league hockey player critiquing your performance as a college hockey player - it would simply be invalid.
