That's a lot to ask of Ty in year 1. He is a high level recruit so maybe but I would be more comfortable with Epps or Skyy even if it mean RJ, Goode, or Ty come off the benchTy, or Goode.......Jake initiated a ton of the offense this year even if most people don't recognize it.

Does Houston have a true guard in the lineup? Arizona has 1....Arkansas doesn't really have a guard in the lineup either....Long and athletic, can switch almost everything....and Ty can handle the basketball.
Best to just fasten your seat belt and go for the ride. We already have our roster turned upside down anyway with all the seniors leaving. I also trust in Brad and the staff to get the roster sorted out, and the transfer portal will help take the sting out of things.I dunno man, I know some of you are salivating over the potential transfers but I'm a little worried about the apparent dismantling of a roster that just won a share of the conference title. I'm sure we'll bring in some great players, but I also remember a lot of people on here thought Payne would be a big upgrade over Giorgi. Staff has my full trust though, just a tad nervous.
See post 701Did I miss something with Love? I thought that was a joke? Am I wrong..
it can't be easy for the rest of the team to flip back and forth
That's horrible man! I hope that it clears up THIS WEEK!I've got a lot of lingering effects from one about 3 years ago. No fun. Then adding covid on top of it... Don't count him out.
Additional
G:Epps,Harris,Podz
Wings/F: Goode, RJ, Ty
C;Kofi,Dainja, Payne(maybe)
Add; Skyy, Transfer 4, Transfer Guard. then spot for 1 more.
So what is going on with Hutchison. Is he coming back?Well you never know with 18 year old kids who will get bored of Papa Dels and La Bamba and decide to transfer. 700 kids in transfer portal is crazy.
however Brad has show great ability to adapt to change
In past 5 years the only transfers that really hurt were Alan Griffin and Adam Miller. Other notables were Mark Smith. Mike Finke
We have lost eight players that never qualified or saw significant playing time.
Matic Vesel
George Sambolin
Samba Kane
Tevian Jones
Tejon Lucas
Anthony Higgs (never played)
Jermain Hamlin
Edgar Padilla
So 14 players in 5 years or~ 3 per year
History predicts 3 transfers
1 probable starter who will hurt losing
2 players who never see significant playing time
Regardless of who transfers we should be in good shape for 2022/3 season
- (3) returning who played significant - Andre, Coleman RJ
- (2) returning who should be improved but did not play significant - Pods, Luke
- (4) new recruits - Sencire, Jayden, Ty, Dainja
- (?) transfer portal
- (3) sudden improvement - BBV, Omar, Brandon. I remember Kevin Turner, Chris Gandy, Brian Johnson Quentin Richardson among other who had breakout senior years
Love Trent and Da'Monte to death, they are their own era of Illini basketball, but I'm ready to move on from that era of Illini basketball, and I'm excited to see what the younger guys can bring to this team with expanded minutes. I guess I don't feel like veteran leadership is all that valuable or at least that veteran leadership needs to come from guys getting more than 8.5min/game.So we'd have one guy on the roster (if Kofi stays) who played more than 8.5 min/game. Not great if you feel veteran leadership is valuable.

Exactly. Every team is going through this. The good news is that whoever we are losing, we can replace through the transfer portal in which many have some experience. Its the new norm, college free agency. It's not an Illinois culture problem. It's a this is how college athletics operates now problem
I mean that was always going to be the case for next year. Consider it a byproduct of the extra year for Damonte and Trent. Next year looks to be a young but talented groupSo we'd have one guy on the roster (if Kofi stays) who played more than 8.5 min/game. Not great if you feel veteran leadership is valuable.
2 of those players still have eligibility though, and Hawkins was starting towards the end of the year. Belo may have started if not for injuries. There are definitely players now rumored to be leaving that played a big part in this team's success and still have eligibility.Understand your point, but the players that won us that championship:
Frazier - Senior
DMW - Senior
Grandison - Senior
Plummer - Senior
Kofi - Junior (potential pro)
When you have your entire starting line up walk on Senior Night, you’re having to have to reload, regardless of transfers.

Sorry for not being clear. I saw that but are people talking about him as having an interest in transferring here?See

Jake was probably the best at getting the ball to Kofi in a good spot.Ty, or Goode.......Jake initiated a ton of the offense this year even if most people don't recognize it.
