No it is not, Social Media is the basis of most of these kids NIL presence. So moving forward companies who are paying the big NIL $$, that actually want a ROI are going to need these kids engaged.
Posting on social media is a requirement, if you want to grow your presence, and make more money with NIL.

Reading the comments/mentions/other people’s posts is *not* a requirement. That has very little to do with NIL.

I imagine avoiding all of that is easier said than done, however.

If the Belo transfer rumors are true, there's a lot we don't know, but here is what I think we can surmise:

An extremely talented player, a season removed from conference All-Freshman and 6th-Man of the Year honors, is going to transfer away. Reportedly a big reason appears to be that he believes he needs a fresh start. Seems like the coaching staff may agree with that sentiment. I think it's a reasonable assumption that doesn't happen if he feels adequately supported here. He's also been a lightning rod for criticism, even his Freshman year when he was amazing. I think only DMW faced more criticism on this team. The fan criticism may or may not have factored into into this rumored transfer.

Amongst the many successes of this program over the last few years, I think there's value in recognizing the failures too. And without assigning any blame, because I think that's impossible without more than rumors and assumptions, if this transfer is happening it is a failure.
The last sentence is impossible to be any more accurate. Complete failure.

The Miller situation seems strange. He left searching for something that our program wasn’t giving him. (Despite being a freshman in the starting lineup on a top 5 team in the country.) Now, there’s chatter of him returning to the same program that didn’t provide what he was looking for in the first place?

He would be a good addition to next year’s roster, but color me confused. It’s been said that maybe it wasn’t all his choice, and you gotta keep mama happy. But, what does mama want?
I’ve wondered the same. Where is mom now? I don’t see why anything would change. Seems like she could just change her mind any time something doesn’t go the way she wants. I get he’d have to sit out if he transferred again, but with talk of our staff steering away from parents that act a certain way, what changed here?

Direct engagement with your fans is essential to successful social media campaigns. For 99% of content creators/personalities you simply will not be as interesting to your audience if you don’t interact with them. Less followers = less money.

The players aren't the only ones posting on social media. Illinois Basketball posts IG clips before and after all of the games.
the clips are very well done. Most of the replies are positive but some are disgustingly toxic and addressed to specific players. So even if a player is not posting himself, he still is subject to abuse.

ok with only time to skim summary of 65 plus pages and not having time to be on here 24/7 could someone give me a summary of what we perceive might happen /rumors?

Ace wolf maybe back
Sky Clark? (sp) might be a pretty sure 5-star recruit?
Am I missing anything, right/ wrong ? as to whats being said?
Thanks in advance
Most of the board got merit badges and are now Asst. To The Director of Admissions qualified. Oh...And maybe Terrence Shannon.

Well said.
If you think some "fans" caused, or will cause Belo not to come back to the UI , I will disagree strongly. Why is it today, that whenever something that happens in an individuals' life, that is perceived by others to be negative(Belo transferring via portal), automatically it has to be the fault of a third party. It's not. It the person looking at Belo in the mirror everyday. If, and that is still a big if, Belo does decide to go into the portal it is not a fans fault, it's the players choice. The fact that he is considering the portal is pretty commonplace in today's college BB world. Fan's not liking the way someone plays has happened since time began. The fans have always voiced their opinions on poor play, good play and just play in general. Hell, newspapers have built fortunes and empires while printing negative and vitriol articles about players, and millions of people read those publication, along with the player, if they so chose. It comes with the territory when you are a big time athlete. You want the praise and admiration of everyone, but can't take the other side of the coin when you play poorly. Really? That unfortunately is not how the world works. It's not the fans fault kids have to be on social media 24/7. It's not the fans "fault" and will have NO influence on what Belo and the staff decide is best for Belo. That is Belo's decision and his alone. Whatever he deicides I hope the best for him, in life and in basketball. I thank him for all he has done, and hopefully, will continue to do for the UI basketball.

I'm not convinced our kids aren't in need of a team sports therapist. The mental part of coming back from an injury like that and learning to trust your body again is very, very real. The same could be said for Andre's concussion. The physical ability remains but the confidence might be crap.

BU also mentioned right before Houston that the team would be better off if they didn't have to listen to the media. To me that points out that some of our players can't block out the noise. We might need someone to help with that, regardless of what the roster make up is.
Access to a sports therapist should be a given for any modern team.

I was going to ask the same thing. It seemed that Adam was happy here, but his inner circle were the ones pushing him away. I’ll never forget the postgame locker room celebration at the end of last year. The team was waiting for coach to come in and there’s Ada standing with the Gatorade cooler to dump on him. It didn’t look like a kid not having fun.

This is just not true.

A college ball player’s growth strategy is not commenting on other people’s negative posts about them. They play basketball on tv in front of thousands/tens of thousands/hundreds of thousands of people each week.

Their social media growth is based on their ability to play the game. The better they play basketball/the more games their team wins, the more followers they’ll acquire.

So they have a different growth strategy than a typical influencer.

If being on social media negatively impacts your ability to play that game, reading/replying to comments can be a net negative to your growth.

If BU has been talking to him as suggested all season...I don't think this time around they are going to coddle him. He either wants to be all in or he doesn't. Who talks to him shouldn't make a difference.
Yeah,I would assume he knows TA from his time at Morgan Park and through AAU. Seems like it would just be common sense. He’s not in the portal yet anyhow right, so is it legal for anyone to be going to visit him?

I will be as heartbroken as anyone if Belo leaves, but I feel like failure is maybe a bit too strong a word. Struggling for the term, but it’s somewhere between failure and adversity. In todays college BB, roster turnover is inevitable. I hope he stays and works through it but the kid just had an awful year on a number of levels. Would totally understand if both parties mutually agree its best for him to get a fresh start somewhere new.

We lose one of our key pieces, but Epps is a bucket getter coming in. We look to be in a great position to land Clark who would also provide scoring and playmaking from that position in addition to giving us more size. And who knows who else will be available in the portal. In the end we will be fine. But Belo is and will be special and I will root for him wherever he goes.

Maybe I missed it, but has it been announced if Adam would have to sit out a year or would he get a play-right-away waiver because of the Will Wade situation?

Credit for using some.

I'm sure it'll be unicorns and rainbows if Miller's getting 25+ minutes per game. What I'm concerned about is what happens if/when that changes.
I'm from here in Peoria and I was told by someone very close to the Manual program that Adam wasn't crazy about leaving really but a certain family member was encouraging him to do so. After the tweet I saw his mother make maybe things could change.

What an interesting turn in conversation. Nature of the beast now I suppose.

But seriously, larger viewpoint, social media/the-internet-in-general is like 90% cesspool. The fact that people utilize it to make money is the unfortunate reality we live in.

I agree with all of this and I am excited for who we have ok’ing in as well. My criticism is not that he will leave and not that it might be best for him. My criticism is “why.”

Some of our fans were culpable in this. Probably because they are incapable of the same maturity that they say Belo must possess, and made him the scapegoat for their hurt feelings about losing games.

I will be a Belo fan. I hope he stays. I also want NO part of him if he is finally healthy and playing for someone else.

Meh, there's a lot the staff can't control despite their best efforts. And the unusual nature of what AC has gone through, combined with how that's negatively affected his play has put everyone in a tough position.

I do think there are lessons to learn, and they should do a post mortem so they understand what things specifically led him to feel less supported during his struggles. I feel the same way about how the team played tight in the tournament --really think they need to get into what sort of signals the coaches are sending, and whether those contributed. I know Alabama football uses a sports psychologist to help with performance, and my totally uninformed, outsider view is that is something they should look into given how noticeable the gap in focus was in the tourney games. Whatever level of nerves played into it, that's something players and coaches can work on.
