Okay, follow up: odds that Segu commits to the Beloved? 50%? 25%? 70%?

Am I missing something? Segu states in this post that he is forgoing his last year of eligibility and hiring an agent for the draft.

My thoughts exactly. Bosmans is the ideal backup big that knows the system. Why replace an every day guy that seems to want to be in 🧡💙?????
I disagree. If you think BBV is ideal when compared to for example what Purdue had in Williams last year as a back up then I don't know what to tell you. I can love BBV and his effort but that doesn't change what's really pretty obvious

I am absolutely certain Kofi will not return.

This is me using reverse psychology on the hoops gods that have been against me since I received a basketball and hoop from my grandfather on my first birthday. (And don't you dare call me paranoid. It is an established fact the whole universe is out to get me. Proven fact!)

Yeah, in fact, Spokane is probably the exact opposite of Puerto Rico :ROFLMAO:
I don't know about that. Both have a lot of Catholics, so they have that in common.

The exact opposite of Puerto Rico is probably like Riyadh or something.

Not many teams are going to get a proven all-conference level guy to come off the bench
He said "ideal" back up. I don't think Kofis back up last year was "ideal". Do you?
We had a preseason all American in Belo coming off the bench last year too right? Why can't we have at least a better back up? Like Dainja for example who has been compared to Williams by some. He may be exactly that.

So who are the plethora of teams that have an All-American back-up center? Name one other than Purdue. And they split minutes evenly. In fact, were it not a fact that Williams embraced starting Edey, both would be seen as starters and just as easily could be. Not sure but it is likely such a scenario has NEVER happened before, but I will not use that word as only a fool would. There is no one in the portal at Williams level and seldom, if ever, will there be.

In all likelihood, BU is happy with BBV, if he stays around. All he needs to do is shoot 500 jump hooks and 500 8-12 foot jumpers every day and he will be fine on offensive end.

That’s the point though.. IF Kofi returns, then Dainja will be the backup and BBV would be the 3rd big. Why would we try to push out BBV and try and get someone else to be the 3rd big? There is no way a non-limited player will transfer here to be a 3rd big. So why push out BBV?

I didn't ever say ouch BBV out. Show me where u said that? I just said he isn't an ideal back up as someone else said he is.
This whole thread is talking about bringing in a transfer big. Why do we need a transfer big if Kofi returns when we’d already have 3 or even 4 if Lieb is still here? BBV seems ideal for a 3rd string big.

BBV will not be primary backup; he’s third-string. Dainja is main backup. Can Illini put that scholarship to better use? Probably. But BBV is more than adequate for depth at the 5 if he remains on team.

Ok my ideal backup big would be some combo of Bacot, Oscar T, Edey, or Kessler. Seems like a pointless question when asked that way because it's not realistic.

Agreed. Can't do much better than Kofi - Dainja - BBV - Lieb depth chart at Center.

Which makes make think Kofi's staying is uncertain and we're on the lookout in case we need a legitimate starting-quality guy to step in.

If you know Kofi's coming back, all attention would be on shoring up the guard spots (ie. Skyy, TSJ, et al).

At PF, I think Hawk will be really good next year (fingers crossed he comes back). And Rodgers should get some PT also.

“Line of succession” not nearly as important following enactment of the one-time-no-sit-for-a-year transfer rule.

I think the rule changed in 2018 that allows an athlete to hire an agent to navigate the pre draft process and then if the athlete pulls out of the draft they can return to school without penalty.
Yes, as long as they are agents from a pre-approved list, the player is entitled to retain college eligibility as long as they make decision to return within 10 days of the NBA Draft combine.
