I know it’s not likely he comes back, but if a last spot on the wing came down to Grandison or TSJ, I’d probably prefer Grandy, especially if Kofi is back for another season. I just think 3+ years in the BU system is irreplaceable, and we saw how stagnant the offense was at the end of the season without Jake. I’ve always been one of his biggest proponents so may be biased, but Grandy giving it 1 more year would be as good, if not better, than any transfer portal win, IMO.

He will probably get #25 right? He is the highest rated prospect Illinois had ever gotten since the modern rating system started, right? Although Deron Williams had #5, so that's not bad either
Werner said 4th highest and the highest since Dee Brown. Will the rankings update again or are they final for the class? My guess is if there is another revision he will drop a bit due to the injury.

Who are the Takes for the '23 class? Ames, Thomas, Watson?

Is there even a remote possibility of landing JJ Taylor?

Great question. Kids/handlers must now navigate not only players going pro but with the ease of transfixing now, they have to gauge who might go into the transfer portal. HS kids might feel a pinch or feel like they will be recruited over. Even the coaches need to be moire precise on who they recruit. This is a new game and it might take a season or two for HS kids and coaches to completely understand.

I like Jacob too but TSJ brings things we are in big need of and they are not Jacobs strong point. We need a slasher who can finish at the rim and a stronger defender vs bigger wings. Once Ayo left we didn't have someone who can drive the ball and finish.

So logical and even realistic. Love how coach and staff continue to adjust and bring in talent.

the last 2 months Potential future PG's Fears ---> Boswell ---> Skyy Looking forward to the results on the court

Boy we all remember 2007-2018 and swing and miss on Fears and we were wondering if anyone could play point.

Fears wasn't a miss.

Is there any chance that Lieb still enters the portal? I don't see him ever getting playing time at Illinois. Would be nice to open up another spot for a veteran PG.

If Kofi stays, does that make it more or less likely that we'll get one of the top transfer targets (Murray/TSJ)?

I believe its a race to the spot, Murray or TSJ. I doubt Brad slow plays either. If TSJ wants to come here, he best either knows where Murray is going or he commits first if he feels that’s Murray will commit to the Illini. We are in a great spot.
Great comment/observation. And I totally agree until someone says otherwise.

I'm imagining 5 or 11 for Skyy. 25 has been historically "reserved" for Simeon products out of reverence for Benji Wilson. 5 and 11 have been associated with some of our best guards (Deron, Belo, Ayo, Dee, etc.) in my limited memory.
I was going to say this. No way he or anyone else wears 25 unless UofI wants to make Chicago people angry. It's a Simeon reserved number but I think it goes deeper than just Simeon from a respect for Benji thing. I would be a bit shocked if any non-Simeon player ever wears #25 for UofI.

Players have until the end of the month to enter.

I’ve been a bit surprised at the number (lack of) of B10 players entering the portal compared to the portal as a whole. Too much work for me to do, but I also wonder what the % of mid major transfers is vs high major. (1241 total as of right now and has been going up around 100/day).

If anyone gives you 1,000,000,000,000 to 1 odds on anything, you take it. If John Mellencamp ever wins an Oscar, I am going to be a very rich dude…

Good point. Coming off a Natty with all 13 scholarship players (except maybe Grandison) eligible again in 2023-24 --- why recruit anyone else?
Well if that happens, we will have 4-5 players declaring for the draft, but I like the way you think!
