So. Who is the replacement for Kofi?
Now that Kofi is gone, I wonder if this encourages BU to go after another power forward in the portal if this moves someone like Coleman Hawkins more into the C position next year and away from solely the power forward spot. If it does, then perhaps this trickles down to someone like Bryce Hopkins.

Now that Kofi is gone, I have to say I don’t want another true big man at the moment. You need at least one to bang with another teams if they have one. And we do have that in Dainji. Kofi is such a rarity now a days to have someone that big and dominant, we just aren’t going to get that in another big man.

We need more guys in the 6-7 to 6-9 range who are more athletic and more versatile on offense. Dainji opens up our offense more than Kofi will because he will still demand respect for his paint scoring, but has much better vision and passing ability.

Someone like David Jones would be perfect in my opinion.

Manny Bates would make sense. He was #1 and #20 in the nation in shot blocking his first 2 years. Would like to see his rebound numbers higher for a guy that big, but we should have plenty of scoring punch. A guy that can defend and score near the hoop would work.

In Brad (and staff) I trust.

If there were, in fact, individuals that stepped up regarding significant additional NIL $$$ …. then I believe they will likely be similarly interested in finding (funding) a top level replacement. Who knows how it pans out, but with the existing and incoming high level players we now have, the table is set for a big that can EASILY expect 18+ mpg…if not more.
I gotta believe that BU and Co. are well prepared for this moment.
Side note…..I believe that we are still competing for a BTC / BTT title and playing in the second weekend in 2022/23.

I’m strangely OK with this. We seem like we peaked with him and it wasn’t quite good enough. More how his game got refereed than anything, but the fact remains he was unable to get us to the F4 or even S16 by himself, and teams could scheme to stop him, and stop Illinois with him.

I would’ve loved seeing him again next but games were pretty one dimensional with him. Not his fault. But we didn’t make the S16 with him. Nor with Ayo for that matter. And that must remain the goal, take the step to being one of those regular tourney teams.

Kofi in the NBA helps us just like Ayo there does.
