We should get an extra compensatory roster spot.

And let's not sleep on the fact that, as long as he makes a roster, we can sell his success hard to future bigs we recruit.
We can already sell what Fletch & the Illini did for Kofi. Most teams will have a 7 footer, look at how he developed in our program over 3 years. But I agree, I hope he can make an NBA roster for Kofi and the Illini.

Manny Bates would make sense. He was #1 and #20 in the nation in shot blocking his first 2 years. Would like to see his rebound numbers higher for a guy that big, but we should have plenty of scoring punch. A guy that can defend and score near the hoop would work.
Your post on yesterday’s thread did not get sufficient love. The person in the office next to me (my GF - I work from home) asked if I was ok when I burst out laughing. That’s gold, BashCtIllini, gold!

Last year, I was convinced that team would fail without high percentage shooting like Kofis. It was quite literally 3 or Kofi 90% of the time (and that was best option 100% of the time).

We have more, albeit unproven, shooters on this roster already who can score on multiple levels. Yes we probably need two impact transfers to be contenders again this year, but I’m pretty content with where we’re at. At least more so than last years team.

The fan in me is happy for Kofi and I hope the Bulls draft him in the second round (maybe because they liked the first player they got who was coached by BU 🤷‍♂️). I would not have felt the same way if he had transferred.

Now that Kofi is gone, I have to say I don’t want another true big man at the moment. You need at least one to bang with another teams if they have one. And we do have that in Dainji. Kofi is such a rarity now a days to have someone that big and dominant, we just aren’t going to get that in another big man.

We need more guys in the 6-7 to 6-9 range who are more athletic and more versatile on offense. Dainji opens up our offense more than Kofi will because he will still demand respect for his paint scoring, but has much better vision and passing ability.

Someone like David Jones would be perfect in my opinion.

I'm not sure how your take could possibly be "having a big that became a 2 time all-American, gets paid to play in the NBA, and made a whole bunch of NIL money along the way doesn't sell."

But here we are.
Well he didn't want the NIL money...

To be fair, I think this can sell for low- to perhaps regular 4 stars but not necessarily for 5 stars and high 4 stars. These guys, they want to be NBA starters and get paid north of $10M per year.

Given that Kofi is out of the picture, do we have any concept of how well Dainja will stack up among other bigs in the B1G? Wondering if we think he'll be middle of the road starting big, or better/worse

Assuming we don't have a good idea yet, since he hasn't really played much in college yet.
